Radio Swap

Hi Everyone -
I recently acquired a 2002 C4 Cab and am hating the stock radio. I'm looking to install a double din unit. Can the original amp and speakers be used? I have the BOSE system.

Thanks!

Tear it all out! I spent $6K on a nice set up. Kenwood NAV Head Unit, 4" JL Dash Speakers, 6.5" JL Door Speakers, 500/5 JL Amp and 3 8" JL Subs.

Which JL 4" did you use? I think they have 2 different 'levels' to chose from. Wondering if the more expensive one are worth the cost difference.

You can use the factory speakers. But the improvement secret is in your speakers and amp.If you spend 6k on car audio dont even think of the jl speakers. It is alot better stuff out there for the money

What's better than the JLs? There aren't many choices in 4"-ers.

I've used most of these at some point or another and GU9CCI is spot on as these are the usual favorites in the competition circuit.

I will say though that some of these brands(Focal, cough cough) has gotten too main stream and trying to capitalize on it by raising their prices above and beyond a reasonable price point of what you're really getting. Another French > American hate crime...

MB Quart can sound a bit harsh to some ears as they use titanium tweeters. I personally prefer the smoother Boston Acoustic Pro series over MB Quarts.

Image Dynamics was the first real car audio specific brand back in the days winning all the competitions with their horn loaded mid-tweeters.

IIRC, Focal, Dynaudio, Scan Speak have all started in the high end home audio speaker biz and were a bit late comers to the car audio market. Sound aside, the mentioned 3 speaker brands do all use exotic materials and design to warrant some of the higher end pricing to some degree.

My $.02
