"Another"? Aside from frequent RMS issues, I've not read many (if any) "stories" about the 3.4L.

Another Said? or, Your Mother Said??? WHAT?!?!?!?!

I've run my 996 3.4 on track and at autoX all the timeand she continues to runs great, of course I take good care of her.

All cars have little issues from time to time and you have no idea what happened. Does he do normal maintenence, when was the last time the plugs were changed, are there any mods, did he get bad gas, could a simple sensor (the motronic system has 8 or more sensors)failure cause the issue.

Don't bash a great engine until you know the facts. It's easy for people to jump on the RMS bandwagon or make other accusations, however, this forum and Rennlist have proved the early 996 to be very reliable and that the extent of propblems were greatly over exagerated. The 3.4 996 is one great car and I for one believe it to be one of Porsche best bargains today.

Don´t want to bash in these engines, I´ve one myself and till now my 996 has been running great.
The M96 engines ever since 1997 have been blowing. I know personaly some guys at the club who had their engines blown. Two weeks ago a 2001 3.4L blow the engine, oil in the coolant. I went to see the car, the engine was out and the mechanic told us it was a normal failure on this engines, he has seen dozens and dozens. make a little search on rennlist and you´ll be amazed at the number of stories with blown engines on this cars.
From the M96 only the GT3 and Turbo seem to be out of the pack, those are rock solid, only heard few engines failures but one of them was a GT2 that EVO magazine bought for a long term test. Engine blew with very few miles on it.
