Deep thought on the 996 cruise control

Ok, so I have had my 2000 C2 for about 6 months. I think everyday I enjoy driving it more and more. last night I was driving home on the freeway, and decided to give the cruise control a try. Am I the only one that thinks the accel and coast are retarded? So, let me get this straight, you push the lever towards the dash to accelerate, and pull down to decelerate? And, to figure that out it took about 10 min. Wouldnt it be better to lift up to accel and pull down to decel?

Am I trippin here?

I agree... To put it mildly the controls are very counter-intuitive.

I use the cruise control VERY infrequently and find myself spending a few minutes studying and relearning the controls every time. Not sure if the 997 is any better...

I think the cruise is perfect...every hit to raise it does so by 1 mph...when I want to slow down ...which is about...never... I pull it and reset...

Yeah, it works fine. But even your statement is counter intuitive. You "cancel" the cruise control to slow down, then re-set? Wouldnt it be better if you lift up to increase 1 Mph and push down to slow down by 1 Mph?

I just find the controls odd. Push and pull would be fine, not a push, and pull down, that's confusing. I mean, was there some engineer thinking in his head, "yeah, thats a great idea, lets make speedup and slow down completely different from each one, that would be awesome!"

I'd have to get in the car to see what I do when I slow down...it's such a good system I don't even think about how how I actually do it...been using it for almost 8 years...

It took me a while to figure out the cruise control...but I never use it anyways. Some part of me things using cruise with a manual transmission is just wrong.

Use mine all the time. Push to accelerate and step on the brake to decelerate. Never did figure out what the strange arrows meant.
