Advice Needed; 2003 C4s

Considering buying a used 2003 C4s with milage in the low 40k. Looks to be in pretty good condition. I was just wondering how maintenance is on this car and what I can expect from it.

at about 40K I would project you would probably need a new clutch if its a manual. I bought my 03 4s with 38K, and I needed a new clutch shortly. Other than that I change the oil myself (easier than my honda). If you maintained other cars (oil, brakes etc) you can do it on a 996.

I have a 2003 C4S with 34K miles. Runs like a dream. Besides oil change (DIY) I haven't run into any extra expenses. Clutch is perfect. Might have to change brake pads. Only expense you might incur are the rear tires from all the pulling you'll do. Great car and nice ride!GL on your search..

if the previous owners knew how to drive the clutch should be good...mine has 60k on it...
my front brake pads were changed @ 50k and my rears should go to 100k
I get 22k on front tires and 12k on the rears
what are you driving now?

Question

Maintenance records?

There is a major service due at 30K.

Was that done?

Just curious but what would one expect to pay for a major service at 30k? $2,000 or so? More?

Maintenance items one might expect at 40k are water-pump, perhaps a few coil packs, but nothing out of the ordinary. Clutch should be good to 80k at least, likely alot more if driven normally.

My '02 C4S is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Keep up with the scheduled maintenance and it will treat you right. Major service typically runs about $1,300 at my dealer. FWIW - I'm at 101,000 miles and I'm on my 2nd clutch. You will spend more on tires for this car than "regular" cars, but that's just part of the deal. Your real expense will come in mods. I've spent far more on things like a new sound system, new steering wheel, new sport mufflers, etc. than I have spent on maintenance. X73 is my next planned mod. Good luck!
