pwr adders- the next step
pwr adders- the next step
I installed fabspeed cans this past weekend and am trying to decide on my next mod. SSK is already on the way. I was thinking headers or high flow cats. Which gives the best results on a 3.4? I've done searches and seen lots of conflicking opinions. Anything conclusive out there? I'm looking for a good clean power band, not just top end HP numbers. Secondly, which of the two mods produces the best tone?
Should I be thinking intake instead? I'm leary of a reflash right now and I've read some stories of the car losing HP w/o a reflash.
Looking for the best bang for the buck.
-I have no intention of cat bypass pipes. Couldn't live with the error light or with disabling the light.
Thanks

I went through the same process as many on this board and saw no real performance gains with intake, headers, exhaust. I did not do chips or cats and was discouraged by most to try. The Supercharger is the only real way to get meaningfull performance gains in the p96 engine. Even the commentator in Exellance Magazine made the statement a few years back that the only way to see real performance gains in the 996 was with forced induction. It is a big decision and I only recommend it to true motor heads. Will
I don't know how sensitive you guys are to performance mods but I definitely feel and hear the difference in my EVO intake and chip. (21HP). I highly recommend this mod.
WYO996, you have a *****in car. I'd like to see some pics. I am planning my massive EVO upgrade (including SC) install in June.

Cap Tal- will you be selling the evo intake and chip when you install the SC? Calling dibs! .....if it'll work on a '01 3.4
I've been hesitant about doing the intake and chip b/c I can see myself wanting to go FI. I just don't know that this car is a good canidate having nearly 60k on the odo. I may just enjoy it for a year then shop for a TT or a S cab to SC.

Tal, thanks, and be sure and do the LWFW and stage 2 clutch, it really changes the car. I was worried about the rattle but it is only a problem when you lug down too much, and the the B&M shifter its fun to shift down anyway, and louder. Will
my take FWIW
20HP to the crank and you may not feel anything but 20HP to the wheels you can feel.
when you have a high mileage car like i do then SC is not really a good option. i should have done it at 40K.
i think a LWFW (if you don't mind the noise), ecu reprogramming and evo intake will get you the most bang. the headers, IMHO, does help with the top end too. erik @ cargraphic told me the cats are the bottleneck in the exhaust and said the most gains you get will come from 200 cell cats. their 100 cell cats do not provide any measurable increase in HP and will trigger the CEL.
