'99 C2 to Turbo Cab Conversion????

Ok, I've lurked for months and haven't seen any of the older cab owners ask the question...so here goes.

How complicated is it to convert a narrowbody to widebody?

I've already done the front facelift and have purchased a rear turbo bumper. At this point, If I got Turbo Cab quarter panels wouldn't I basically have completed a turbolook conversion?

Is it as simple as swapping out quarter panels or am I going to encounter other problems?

BTW - I really want the Naca ducts on the Turbo quarter panels!

You will need to either pick between steel or fiberglass wide body pieces...a turbo tail (stock or aftermarket)...different rims than a 99 would have( a 2005 turbo cab with reg. 996 rims won't look right)...red rotors, side skirts, exhaust tips.

Not to mention you will need wider wheels as well to fill out the wider rear quaters....Have you seen pics of Eric's WIIIIIIDE C2 Cab? It's wider than a turbo and looks VERY good....there were pics here recently....Oh and don't forget the rockers....the Turbo's have different flared rocker panels, almost like moulded side skirts that flow into the rocker panels. not sure if tose are seperate or not.

I'm not trying to make a factory replica turbo.

I already have installed or bought:

front facelift w/ Turbo front - installed
Turbo rear bumper - factory (inc. all heat shields)
Dual exhaust
RUF side skirts

to be ordered:
Misha GT2 tail
Gemballa Competition wheels

I agree that turbo side skirts are needed to replace the RUF ones. And obviously, the rear wheels have to be widened out, but that can be accomplished easily with spacers.

In my mind the major work in this project is the body work.

I guess what I'm asking is "Can Turbo Cab quarter panels be fittted on a 99 C2 and how difficult is that to do???"

Why don't you call one of the parts supply places like Porsche dismantlers, or something. They sould know and maybe have the parts.
I agree that it would be a cool mod and I think I have seen one on Ebay that was converted.

Here is the site.http://911pcar.com/

no it will not fit perfect. the job is more than it may seem. as you need TT tail lights, wiring harness, custom fit deck lid, rockers, rocker molding, side intakes, side intake molding, tt brackets for the lights and intake molding. about 4k in parts alone.

Here is a photo of a 99 C4 996 conversion. This was done by ANZIANOS in Santa Ana.

Neil
I'm gonna do just that...even if its just to price up a project that fiscally makes no sense, just to see the costs involved. I actually had already spoken with LAPD and they didn't provide much help but were willing to sell me anything I may need at factory prices!

Cabrio
Sweet pics but those aren't factory quarters. That's a widebody conversion but I was really hunting for the factory intake look. Actually, I've seen the car Neil is refering to on Ebay and the only other one I know of I saw done by Gemballa in a magazine article I have saved.

Don
True, most of what you listed I expected though I forgot about lights, brackets, & wiring harness. I should have remembered that cause I also have a '79 SC and the same lighting upgrade has to be done for some of the BetterBodies rear bumper applications to update.

I am in the process of reseaching making my '02 C4 cab a wide body. Especially since I just saw a new 997 C4s ($110k)

Did you ever have the wide body done???

Rob,

Sorry, I haven't been online much since the hurricane.

I never went through with the widebody conversion. I still
have the opportunity to do it but I elected to install what I had
now and continue researching it.

Right after Wilma I had the following done at Foreign Affairs in Pompano.

Bilstien PSS-9
Mo30 Sway Bars
Factory Rear Turbo Bumper & Bumperettes
Quad Pipe Ends
Misha GT-2 Wing
Techart style side skirts
FVD Gemballa 993 style hood
Savannah Beige / Alum sport steering wheel
Savannah Beige Leather Door Panels

From what I've researched so far the widebody conversion can be done.
I've seen it on a 1999 996 convertibe on Ebay. It requires:

Turbo Quarters
Turbo Side Skirts
Turbo Rear Bumper & Bumperettes
Turbo width Engine Cover
Turbo side Air Vents
C4S Exhaust Pipe extenders
Turbo Exhaust Pipe ends (quad???)
Spacers for the wheels

It will also require all of the Turbo lighting & rear wire harness.
I was able to use the original heat shields, so those don't have to be replaced.

BTW - I have a buddy who lives in Weston Hills (I'm in Davie) so you may see me driving around your area sometime...I'll keep my eye out for your ride!

Gator,
Did you encounter any issues installing the rear TT bumper?
I have one on the way and any insight would be great.
Thanks,
Stan
