I just bought a 2000 996, excellent condition, with 97K miles for 17K at the dealership. It was originally quoted at 20.2K, then I managed to drop them to 17K... I've only had the car for a week now but so far so good.

The previous owner was some doctor and he told me his wife was the driver. It has had 3 water pump replacements and clutch replaced at 55K. All maintenance was performed by the shop and oil changes by the owner.

I had to use 3m kit on the headlights, order a new ignition switch, and working on getting a new key fob since my remote doesn't work. Other than that, I think I got a great deal.

You might be lucky. A Porsche that has been driven A LOT seems to have a better chance NOT to have the misaligned engine block because it would already have had the RMS/IMS issue. Having said that, 100K miles is a substantial amount of miles driven and things are going to start wearing out (THREE water pumps?!) and Porsche looks at the engine as a replaceable part. I would start saving for the repair bill for sure.
