It's my first Porsche, so this is a new world to me.

Here are a few pics from day 1 with the car.









Looking at these pics bring back such good memories of driving the car for the first time.

Bought the car with approx 70K miles on the clock, so the first order of business was to fix a few obvious issues that even a Porsche initiate like myself could spot.

Looks like a 2001 because of the headlamps in addition to having the trunk and engine compartment releases electronically instead of the lever from previous years, IIRC.

Looks nice. Are those 18" wheels? I'm thinking of replacing my 17" wheels with 18" wheels. The 17" look too small these days.

Oggie, I can't tell too much of a difference really between your 17s and my 18s, which is odd becuase it's usually noticeable, I agree. Could you put a set of C4S or turbo wheels on yours if you want the 18s? I think the turbo wheels are hollow spoke so there may be some weight savings there as well...

 

that rear wiper is uncommon. I would guess it's very practical. Check out my recent post about first year of ownership. Hope it helps. Rob

 

Hi Rob. I've actually removed the rear wiper as I've never used it and think the car looks slightly cleaner without its presence.

Over this past summer I did a few mods. 997 SSK, painted centre console to match seal grey exterior and removed the resonator from the stock intake system.

This should stop those delete covers from falling through


Couldn't ever quite figure out how these fit back into the centre console compartment hinge mechanism, but it seems to work fine with them left out. Anyone recognise these two square aluminium channels?



This resonator / restrictor is a candidate for evacuation!





I used a perfectly sized PVC stopper sourced form the local hardware store to plug up this hole on the flexible intake tube. A replacement tube to smooth out the flow is in the works.


Fabricated a blockoff panel and sealed it tight to keep unfiltered air from entering the hole introduced by the removal of the resonator chamber.

After fixing the fuel door spring, actuator and rosette, I turned my attention to the other interior parts which were really starting to show their age.




There were soooo many small little parts to do. I was really testing the patience of my painter with this stuff but when it is all done, I'm sure it will look sharp.

While I was at it, I had the rear bumprettes sprayed Seal Grey along with a plug for where the rear wiper was located.




Finally, I started to replace some of the worn out leather in the interior that was getting faded and cruddy looking. First up were the door compartment covers and handles, shift boot and snap on panels for the center console, lid and e-brake handle.







There's lots more to do, especially on the recovering of interior surfaces as I'd ultimately like to do the full dash and doors. Possibly the seats too. My old Evolution had Recaro seats that I absolutely loved.

 

Great job man! It's those little details that can really bring an older car back to life.

p.s. Did you hold that interior piece together with a dog leash?

Well spotted guys. I put a roll of newspapers between them to keep pressure on and wrapped it up in the closest thing available. That adhesive starts to dry quickly!

Call me crazy, but I think those carbon fiber interior accents that people spend loads of money on look really out of place with our cars. Painted interiors doesn't exactly look stock but it does look better. I think if I had it to do all over again I would probably have gone piano black or maybe matte black. I drove a newer CTSV last week with a piano black and leather interior that was fairly nice.
