Thinking of first Porsche

Hey guys starting here to do my research on buying my first porsche. Looking at price and style I am thinking of 2000-2003 911 Carrera. Can anyone tell me the major difference in these years? Or a list of things to check for before buiying? I am going to take my time in my search.

Thanks for your help.

2000 and 2001 are MK I cars. 2002 and 2003 are MK II cars. MK II cars have a redesigned front end, a larger 3.6 liter engine, stiffer body, etc. research MK I vs. MK II and you'll see all the differences.

I'd get a turbo and for a FEW k more (they go for 30k and up now), save yourself the potential engine headaches that you'll be reading about in the forum..

Another difference is that 2000 and 2001s cost less... You should be able to get one with 50,000 miles for $20,000.

$20,000 loan for 60 months at 6% = $386.66 per month
$30,000 loan for 60 months at 6% = $579.98 per month

Ι wouldn't buy a Turbo for a first Porsche as it is a very special car and can be a maintanance nightmare

If you go with the cheaper 99-01 models make sure the IMS has been done. I have a 00 and have not had any major issues. I love the car but after 10 months and 12k miles its time for a turbo. If you have 40k to spend go with the turbo. if you are stuck around 30-35 go with the 2002 and newer. 20-27k 01 clean low miles (40-50k)

another option is getting a clean Carrera and budgeting for IMS, RMS, and clutch after purchase. From the engine side you should have years of worry-free driving after that.

I got my 00 MKI for ~$17K with 97K Miles. I plan on getting IMS/clutch done and was quoted $3K for the parts/labor. I went in knowing this would be my garage/project kept car and not daily driver. There's so many things you can mod if that's your type of thing. If you want to stay stock and have the funds, I would go MKII.
