C2 after one year ownership
C2 after one year ownership
Just one 2002 C2 owner's observations....
I bought my car a year ago this month with 19,500 miles. Today it is in the shop with 35,000 getting a GT3 bumper and a couple extras.
It's my daily driver and I want to share what I think are realistic expectations with anyone planning to buy a 996. A lot of people on the board ask about the cost of ownership. I think I would fall in the category of "best case scenario" since I bought the car with very low mileage. This is what I've found::
Don't go into this purchase thinking you won't have to spend money. You will.
While it is a very well built and reliable car, there are certain realities to face:
a. You will push it more than the average car because it is a performance car and your gas mileage won't be stellar. Plus, you will have to fill it with premium fuel.
b. You will be replacing tires every 10-12K miles and they are expensive.
c. You will spend $2000 to replace the clutch at some point.
d. You will love this car and spend additional funds making it your own. Parts and accessories for the 996 are very expensive if done correctly.
e. You will want to eventually buy a faster or newer porsche at some point.
I believe the average owner should expect to budget 2-3k per year as a safety buffer on top of all the usual stuff like oil and scheduled maintenance.
Thoughts?

No matter if it's a Porsche, you WILL eventually mod it regardless of your initial intentions to just drive it. If you are looking at these forums, it's a sure bet.

sounds about right! I've had mine since May-ish, spent $500 on rear tires (picked up a nail) and $800 on winter wheels and tires. I also changed my own oil which after parts and materials amounted to about $140 (but i will not have to buy the oil filter wrench again).
A great car.
A great car.
