Remove 996 Engine
Remove 996 Engine
Attention all mechanic types.. I am wanting to learn how to remove my 996 engine and transmission. I have heard that this was not as bad as one would think. I have a lot of mechanical skill and I really hate smashing my fingers and hands squeezing into to tight places. I thought that if I learn how to "drop" my engine and transmission then I could do my own repairs. I have checked youtube with no luck in finding a video of the C2 996. I would appreciate anyone who can direct me in my venture.

Yes it really is not all that difficult if you are mechanically inclined.
Google "996 workshop manual", and download the engine PDFs.
Then read this thread in it's entirety:

Looks like Todd has you covered. But, having done this over the summer on my father's NA 1999 C2, let me know if you have any questions. If you want to post photos, I and others can help you through it. PM me if you need a copy of the workshop manual that Logray mentioned. If you end up referencing the manual, beware, it leaves out a few details that many of us have had the pleasure of figuring out on our own. Good luck.
don't spam the board to get your count up or you will get banned...I wish more new members would read the FAQ so they would know they could send a visitor message if they can't pm...just left click on the users name and go to the view public profile and you will see a text box..type your message and send/save

From my thread (first reply), this was one of my favorites... (and I posted several links in that thread to more engine drop threads, in addition to my own thread with 400 pictures).

when you left click on the username a pull down menu will appear..the first choice is "view public profile" select that and you will be taken to the members public profile and you will see the text window
Sorry GT3.. After View Public Profile..... I can get to the members profile. I just can't find a text box to type into. I can see other messages, but there is nowhere for me to type a new message.
