How many of You would Supercharge your 996?

If there was a compnay such as RUF that made one proven to be reliable? I think I would but I would also be hard pressed to give up my warranty considering I have an 03...what are your guys thoughts on this ?

Thumbs up

with proven reliability, as you say, I'm pretty sure I'd go for it in about a nanosecond

but, I might wait 'til my warranty's about over

I probably would, but not right now. I think it seems like a good concept for a few years from now when I am itching for a new car but may not want to take the inevitable "loss" on the C4S, so I could make it new again and dig a deeper $$$ hole
That way I could "invest" another $10K and make an even better "buy" for someone 6 months after I have it supercharged, and get bored anyway!!

Anything after 2000 that doesn't have a throttle cable rather is driven by wire. The throttle body moves not by a cable but by a motor.

FWIW, I think I mentioned that I had a lengthy conversation with Estonia Ruf (the Mrs) who is in charge of the SC project. Their goal was or is to develop a unit that would be installed by Porsche dealers, with the approval of PAG of course. That was back in April, and I haven't heard anything since. Fortunately I have a C4 so the TipS tranny is the same unit used for the TT Tip so it could accept the extra torque. Just waiting for news.

Hey Stephen, what ARE you working on??

I have a 5000 mile 03 C4S that will be Supercharged with the TPC unit just as soon as Mike is happy with the one that he installed on his new 03. TPC has sold hundreds of Superchargers for Boxsters so I think he knows what he is doing, Mike has two Supercharged 3.6 cars in testing right now.

The difference is TPC is NOT writing the software for the DME. They are still piggy backing computers which makes for a less reliable system due to the inability to feed the ECU proper information to achieve a performance level. The end result is less HP is available then if you rewrite what the ECU can do normally verses feeding it false information to trick it into changing something.

You are right though, they have been doing it for a while.

I like the idea of pushing colder air into the intake with the supercharger. I also have a Ford F-150 Lightning and the whine of the supercharger drowns out everything - terribly loud. Is that sound a characteristic of all superchargers?

No it is not. Many blowers are quieter than the Vortex or Paxton. Some are certainly louder than others based on design.

If I'm not mistaken (and I may be) all superchargers have the characteristic "whine", just some are louder than others.

Ditto!

Please keep us posted on R&D and availability! I have been waiting on TPC but would love another option. I am not overly impressed with their response so far.

p.s.- the whine is the second best part!
