The Dunlops were devoleped as Race tires that can be driven on the street. They are similiar to Michelin Pilot Sport Cups in that they are a race tire, but not a TRUE super-soft race compound like a Hoosier would be. A great choice for someone who does not want to switch to race tires at the track.

They can be shaved to 4/32" before running to fight excess heat build-up, and that combined with heat cycling will help them to get the best life.

Carlos, what pressure were you running your tires at when hot? Hard to judge from the photo, but from the wear it looks like it may have been a little high. Could be why you spun...

 

i actually have 2 copies of hank's book . one from GGR ground school and the other i just received from GGR autocross school.

the wear is mostly on the outer 1/4 of the tire, both front and rear. started w/ 30 ft/36rr COLD which increase to 36 ft/44rr HOT. i wanted a basis from which i can later play with. i have read that some prefer 32ft/36rr HOT. that means i should start with 26ft/30rr? kinda low isn't it?

nah, i spun 'cause i was in too hot, wide and turned in when unweighted after the crest in the road. my instructor told me not to worry, it's part of learning. tap the breaks next time before the turn or just wait until the car becomes weighted again when "landing" after the crest.

They are not being discontinued. Dunlop just quit making a few sizes. I think their size lineup is pretty much settled now.
