My '04 TT Cab's top started squeaking at about 500 miles and got progressively worse. However, the problem only occurred when the top was up which led me to believe something was rubbing.

The problem on mine was the metal boot cover was touching the fabric top and causing the squeaks. Here's what to do:

1. Push down hard on the top from outside the car just behind the rear side window. See if you can duplicate the sound.
2. If you can, put the top down about half way.
3. Look at the metal trim on the front edge of the boot cover and see if it is chaffed or run your hand along the edge and feel for chaffing.
4. I discovered that the boot cover was rubbing against the top in the direct center of the cover.
5. I put a piece of black electrical tape on the spot (about 1") and the squeaking disappeared. The tape is barely noticable underneath the edge.

If this is your problem, it's an easy solution for now. It could be just a simple adjustment that the dealer can perform, but this will work for now.

erik, it could be they're too rare to have a large enough sample to have known about the problem

btw, after experiencing the obscene torque in carerra scott's TT cayenne this weekend, i can definetely attest it is a 100% different car than the entry level cayenne. what a beast that tt cayenne is, eh! can you imagine that motor in the lighter 996 tt?

Ben,

It's funny you should say that and please be sitting down when you read this. Porsche actually manufactured a new boot cover specific to the TT CAB. Yes, it's true. The boot cover on my car actually has no third brake light, just in the spolier. So, instead of taking the cheap route and putting a plastic cover over the light, they actually spent some money! Maybe they didn't do enough R&D on this part!

Here are my thoughts on the Cayenne TT: If I had to own just one car/truck, it would be the Cayenne. Basically, the only people that are still criticizing the vehicle are the ones who haven't actually driven one yet. This is not a commentary on whether Porsche should have built and SUV, just my opinion on the truck.

I had some groans, but 2 trips to the dealer fixed all of them. Nothing for the last year at all.

Thought I would weigh in since I have a 99' cab with 30k miles. I purcahsed this car in March of this year, so I am not sure if it ever had a squeak and was fixed....but today, there are no squeaks and rattles from the top. I will occassionally get a squeak from the wind guard when it is in place and in the down position -- but this is still rare.

If you have a squeak, it most likely can be fixed (and Porsche should correct it on a new car). Good Luck....
