Ok...so the deal is done. I traded my 2003 5 Series BMW plus cash for this Glacier White 1999 Cabriolet 996 with Hardtop.

I am really stoked to join you boys (gals too ) in this club!

Mine is a high mileage 996 with nearing 155k but drives and runs like a dream. The exterior is in super condition as is the interior and it just "pops" after my detailer did his thing on her yesterday (photos in my album)..he got the white paint so smooth it is amazing. I really like the G &G chrome wheels too.

Now for my first Newbie question...

I did not get an owners manual and was wondering if there is an online source, or if anyone can provide me with the correct procedure for the hardtop removal? I found a tool in the mid console glove box which is likely used, but I do not want to mess anything up. I also will need to understand the soft top procedure.

I have been lurking on this forum while I considered the purchase all week and you all are a wealth of information. I hope to become a contributor as well!

Here is a You Tube video shot today:

Very nice, check eBay for the owners manual. They have quite a few.

Welcome! Very nice ride. Given where you're located, I trust that the hardtop will spend most of the time in the garage. Take advantage of the fact that you have a cab.

Oh you bet...that hardtop will be in the garage mostly! Trustfully someone here will advise as to the removal procedure or a link to help me out on removal instructions as I do not have an owners manual...

I just Googled the question and got this answer (I've copied the text below the link). Hopefully, someone here with actual experience could expand on this if needed -- but it sounds pretty straight forward.

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=727039

"Just bought a 01 Cab....the dealer taught me to put all the windows
down, use the tool to unlock the top at the back corners first then
look at the roof line above the mirror for the red button that
controls the front lock mechanism. Once you unlock that mechanism,
then have someone assist you in lifting the top off by clearing the
back first, then leaning the top forward to clear the front
locks....should lift right off....reverse the procedure to put the top
back on. Hope you have a hardtop stand or a hoist. BTW, when you put
the top back on, you should feel it seat on the back corners when you
use the tool to tighten it down. Hope this helps."

Welcome. Yeah, in Del Mar you'll likely never put the top on. Have fun, most here do.

You can PM me your phone number and i can go over how to remove the hardtop via phone if you'd like, it's too complicated/long to type it out via a post.

congrats and welcome. download a copy of the owner's manual here (the 2003 will do fine): http://www.renntech.org/forums/files...wners-manuals/

Then go to p.154, start of procedure for hardtop removal.
P.S. I am not too far from you (Temecula, 92592) and have a hardtop cover and stand for sale in case you're interested.
