Has any done a Softronic ECU upgrade on a NA 996? I'm very interested, but just want to make sure I don't lose any low end torque. Softronic via Vivid says gains of 22 hp. That is quite a bit of power. Anyone done this? Others? What type of gains are you getting? Can you feel them in the seat? Gas mileage? Other bonuses such as smoother idle, etc?

Sorry guys but after looking into a lot of different tuning options I decided all hypo and no real benefit on a N/A car. Also, no matter what the tuners tell you "yes" you will lose low end torque to gain a few HP higher up at best and at worst you will lose both HP and torque. BTW, same goes for CAI, etc...

You want more HP than an N/A 996 offers sell it and buy a Turbo. I have a factory X51 option on my 40th AE car and can tell you with all that work and expense (aluminum manifold, ported heads, larger bore exhaust manifold with sports exhaust, and a revised ECU) NO WAY a simple ECU tune will get you 20+ HP in these cars.

What do they say "Torque wins drag races HP sells ECU flashes, LOL"

Miami.....

Not sure what the entire mod list you have is, but i can tell you that mine sounds similar to yours. Major head porting, larger valves, camshaft upgrade, inatake plenum, CIA, Fuel pressure, ECU tune, underdrive pulley and exhaust.... just as fast as a friends bone stock Turbo.. ( he's pissed ) because even AFTER all of the work i've done, he still spent 15k more to have the TURBO model.

I agree, you probably wont see 20 hp on a stock NA car, but with all of the mods I have done, I wouldnt doubt that i got less than that. Having Jags tune the ECU really tied everything together. last time at the track was a 12.87 @ 114mph. the car is extremely consistent and the turbo guys hate me for that.

Anyhoo... those are my .02 cents. I hear guys say all of the time.. "if you want more power, buy a turbo" BS.. mod the hell out of your NA.

Extra fuel cools the engine, running lean heats the engine up. The issue with more fuel, unless you burn it all is more unburnt hydrocarbons which means pollution.

ECU tunes typically lean up your fuel curve. I think manufacturers walk a fine line when trying to make EPA regulations, keeping longevity, and making the best mpg. But, sometimes all the required add ons make for a better emissions, but not power or mpg...ie: restrictive and hot cats. They tune to meet more restrictive emissions at the cost of performance and sometimes mpg.
