996 ECU Tune

Anyone with a 3.6L 996 that has had the ECU tuned/flashed?

I met a guy yesterday in Indianapolis with a shop that maps your ECU, sends it to Europe and then programs your vehicle with the new software. There's also AMS Perfromance here in Chicago that does it as well.

He claims upto 50HP gain with gas mileage improvement.

Sounds interesting to me however I'd like some feedback regarding reliability as a DD or other issues.

Thanks!

Lol, we do have the Internet now. No need to send it all the way to the other side of the world. There are no less than half dozen companies in the US that can flash your ECU, including DIY from the comfort of your own driveway from companies like Softronics.

Lol, I hope you are being sarcastic.

AMS is great for EVO's and Skylines, and even Porsche Turbo's but I don't think they can pull that kind of magic on a NA 996 without serious internal rework.

There are lots of people on the board who have done an ECU tune or flash. I think the upside for a normally aspirated car is debatable. I considered this modification and I discussed it with the local shop/tuner that does this type of work. Their opinion was that for a street driven car or a daily driver that uses premium gas from the pump, there's not a huge upside to be had. I think you can get a little more out of a car running racing fuel with improved intake and exhaust, but that may not be practical for a DD. I decided to pass.
