996 Precision porsche gt3 front bumper experience

Before I say anything, I want to make sure everyone knows this is not a bash job..... I live in South Florida. Less than a year ago, I went with the gt3 front bumper from precision porsche. I had it installed by my body shop/mechanic/friend who I trust absolutely.... I've used him exclusively since 1998. He's very experienced with the 996 although he works on all cars.

I just replaced that bumper with an oem gt3 front. Here's why:

Within 2 weeks of installing the PP bumper, I noticed a slight "cup" in the bumper near the passenger headlight. After 2 more weeks, I noticed the bottom of the three inlets were warping. After 3 months, the whole thing was very ugly. My thought was that maybe the south florida sun was too much for it. Regardless, it got so bad that I had to replace it with the oem part.

There's more to this story.... This was the second part from PP. The first one
came and it had a defect. I called PP and spoke to (Tony I believe) and he sent out another one very quickly. Great service. I didn't have to argue or complain, I simply sent him a picture and he sent me another one immediately. The customer attention was right there.

PP has a great reputation based on whats on this board and that is why I went with them in the first place. I know an aftermarket body part isn't expected to have the durability of oem but this was ridiculous. Is this an anomaly? Please inform.

scantu is infamous around these parts
I love PP's products. I've had the front piece on for over a year...... perfect fit to this day. I have had the rear bumper, decklid and wing on for a few months... LOVE IT!

The story seems incomplete. Did you simply give up? Did you get a refund for the warping/ugly front end? Although it's never fun when it happens, all products can have not only a regular failure rate, but you might have been the recipient of a bad run or batch of products. What was their ultimate answer on the issue?

Here are the pics. I'll include a copy of the email sent to PP. There is a key element I realize I conveniently left out of my initial post which could be regarded as dodgy to readers. Forgive me please. I'm hot and pretty pissed off about the whole situation. It's an unfortunate situation.

Full disclosure is what makes this board so successful. The good the bad and the ugly. So here is my email to PP:

Hi,

I'm contacting you today because of an issue I've had with your product. You had sent me the bumper to Hallandale Auto Electric at 719 N. Dixie Hwy, Hallandale Florida 33009. I'm sorry I don't have the exact date in front of me but I can find out if needed. It wasn't more than 8 months ago. The first one had a defect and you sent me a second one without issue which I appreciated very much.

I had it installed by my body shop/mechanic/friend who I trust absolutely.... I've used him exclusively since 1998. He's very experienced with the 996 although he works on all cars. When he did the work, it initially came out great and I was very happy with it.

I park in a garage during the day at work. At night, it's under a carport at home.

Within 2 weeks of installing the PP bumper, I noticed a slight "cup" in the bumper near the passenger headlight. I figured I'd live with it. After 2 more weeks I noticed the bottom of the three inlets were warping and I kinda fooled myself thinking "well, nobody can see that". As time went on, it was warped everywhere. It was a slow progression. With each passing month, it got a little worse to the point that it looked horrible... Really bad. My thought was that maybe the south florida sun was too much for it.... Even though it's out of the sun most of the time. I found myself trying not to look at the front end whenever I approached the car. Otherwise, the car is in excellent condition all around and I just couldn't live with it. I made the decision to go with the oem gt3 front. I was literally days from ordering the part and preparing to be without my car for a few days when all of a sudden......

My girlfriend backed her little SUV right over the bumper and over my hood!!! Although it may seem fortunate to have the insurance backing me to replace the bumper, hood and other things, I'm not happy about any of this.

I've been told it could have been a bad run or possibly that a certain percentage of products are expected to go bad and I ended up with a bad one. In any case, I should have alerted you guys sooner to the issue so that it could be noted and/or corrected. The fact remains that I got a really bad product. I would however like to know that you guys will stand behind your work and I can purchase from you and refer business to you in the future without concern. PP has a great reputation on the porsche boards and I don't mean to be totally negative about this because your customer service toward me in the beginning was excellent.

How do you guys respond to this? I've included some pics. There was very minimal damage from my girlfriend to the bumper itself. She went right over it! Onto the hood!

Regards,

So there it is.. My contact info is all over the place if anyone wants to call me. Based on what has occurred, I don't expect PP to bend over backward for me but I would like to hear a positive response. What are your thoughts?

Well, I heard back from PP. Tony was apologetic and offered his feelings, but said he couldn't offer to do anything about it right now. I really wish things were different.

Moral of the story is I should have said something at the first sign of trouble and gave him the opportunity to make it right. Doesn't change the fact that i got a really bad product. Dead end.
