Tiptronic shifting problem.

I have a 2001 C2. When I'm at a slow speed in a higher gear(3rd gear at 15 mph) if I excelerate hard the rpm's rise quickly, can't hold the rpm's and drop down 4-600 rpm's without shifting gears. The problem is much more prevelent in the morning when the car is cold. As the car warms up the problem exists less and less and will (slip) in fewer gears.

It seems the transmission is slipping or the torque converter is not hooking up properly. The slipping is happening more often and in more gears.

I just came back from my dealer after having the shop foreman ride with me. It was easy to duplicate the problem for him. He thought it was shifting into 4th, but then realized the gear light never moved from 3-4 and the car didn't shift from 3-4.

I hope I've explained this properly. The car is going into the dealer tonight. My warranty is up in 10 days and I want this corrected before it expires.

Has anyone else had this problem and what do you think the problem is. Thanks a lot

Ken

Automatic transmission still have clutch packs that can wear out. Did you check the fluid level? Not enough fluid for the torque converter would be another problem area. Could also be an electrical problem/bad sensor that is making the tranny act funny. Really strange things can happen to transmissions when you have electrical problems.

Ken, I know that you posted your issue a long time ago. But if you're still active on this site, I wonder if you'd be willing to share what the dealer's conclusion was regarding the cause of the problem and what they did to resolve it. I've had the same problem on my 2000 C2 for a few years - the Tiptronic feels like it downshifts from 4th to 3rd without a shift being indicated by the gear change lights on the dash. The car is still drivable but this is an annoying problem. Nobody I've taken the car to seems to have a clue about the cause of the problem, including a dealer who just gave me their stock solution to everything..."you need a new transmission". Thanks for your input.
