Oil line broke on Supercharger

I just had a bad experience on the road when my SC oil feed line broke and left me with a mess. I stopped in time and on close inspection found the a coolant hose clamp near the block feed fitting rubbed a hole in the rubber oil line. I left a detailed report on rennlist under the thread "Supercharger went kaboom". I have a new hose coming from Evo and will do what I can to prevent recurrance of the problem and will inform Todd and others how to help prevent similar events. The CEL immediately came on and smoke bellowed but the oil level only dropped slightly so no harm done, I hope. Will

Will,

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully this is an isolated incident. Todd?

The installation on this car was done by a company in CO. The oil feed line to the supercharger should not come in contact with the supercharger mount.

It didn't sound as if either the supercharger or the engine needed warranty coverage. This was not a supercharger failure or internal engine failure caused by the supercharger system. This was a failure of a hose caused by chafing.

As Evo has no authorized distributor in Colorado, it sounds like the incident was a result of a faulty installation from a shop other than an Authorized Evo Distributor.

Methinks it is a good idea to have this installed by a trained professional.

Todd,

Thanks for the clarification. I should've known not to worry about your setup :-)

The oil line wore against an existing hose clamp that goes to the coolant fill tank, and the exit of the oil feed line is only two inches up the line from the clamp that is installed at the factory. When the line was installed the mechanic needed to change the position of the clamp to prevent the wear as there is only 1/4 inch clearance. Just be aware this could happen with similar installations. Will
