Coilovers for 996 - XYZ, Satnce, Bilstein???

I have a 2002 C2 that was lowered before I bought it. It also has 11.5" rear wheels running 295/30/19 tires. When I push it hard in corners or hit bumps, it rubs. I know the wheels are a bit big, but I love the look and the cornering. My mechanic thinks the lowering springs dropped it 1 1/2" and thinks that if I raise it a 1/2", my problem will be mostly solved. Since it has 80K miles, I thought changing out the suspension to coilovers would be a good idea. Now I'm educating myself on the various companies and it is blowing my mind. I like the idea of inverted fronts for stonger lateral support. XYZ says they have a custom setup that would take some time to build at around $1800, Stance says their Supersports are perfect for street and track, I read a lot about the Bilsteins - mostly good, but they are expensive. I am in upstate NY where the raods are not always in good repair, so dips and bumps are common. Any ideas?

I'm going to lower mine but this is what I want to do. Bilstein sport shocks, and the Eibach Pro set-up which includes stiffer sway bars and the springs which are progressive for better ride on the road. I've heard coilovers can be a bit rough for normal driving so that's why I going this route. I don't track so I'm doing this for spirited street driving.
I know your was already lowered but wanted to offer my 2 cents.

Because My wheels and tires are bigger than they should be, I only want to lower the car 1 inch. Currently it is lowered 1 1/2 inches. I think I need two things 1) stiffer suspension, and 2) actualy raise the back up 1/2 inch for a little extra clearance.

If you want an economical route check out K Sports from vivid racing. They are a great deal. My friend just did this on his 2002 and they are sweet. They are quite firm, and he is dialing them off a bit to try and reach a sweet spot. Check them out and report back your thoughts. They are not "the best", but I bet they're "the best for the price"!

You have a Porsche and if you want a certain level of performance, reliability, refinement, and customer support, pony up the extra dough for Bilsteins.

If you don't care about all of these aspects and only some, then some of the other brands you mentioned could suffice but your still taking on some risk IMO.

I have the Bilstein PSS9's on mine and do love them. However, you own a $100K car that is now worth $25,000 on a good day with a tail wind. So, spending $4500 to get Bilsteins and install them may seem like overkill. It would to me for this car now with lower values. Just my opinion however. At least call Dan at Vivid and ask him his thoughts on the K Sports.

My mechanic says that a proper shock and spring setup can be better than coilovers. I'm just confused and worried about my clearance issues. Money isn't the issue - sure my $90K car is now worth $25k, but I approach my car as if it is still a $90K car. That said, I don't care about the name of the company, I care about the application fitting my needs. I am an aggressive street driver that tracks the car a couple times a year. I drive this car nearly every day and travel in it at times down to NYC, NJ, Philli. So super aggressive/stiff is not necessary - a solid combination of street and performance ould be good.

My Bilsteins have 10 adjustments for firmness. I'm finding myself on 3 (mostly soft) and the ride is still a little firmer than stock. My friends was stock before he bought the K sports. I felt it was too loose and porpoised. I do love adjustable coil overs. Ksport has 36 adjustments. I just read one of the reviews (both all 5 stars) and he is riding about 1/2 way at 17 on his. He tracks once is a while too (the reviewer). Anyway, I too spend a lot on my car like it is new, but options are great to have. Good luck, let us know how you go. I'm running 19" X 11 in back too / fenders are rolled, but no rubbing.

Bilsteins can be had for ~$2500 so not too terribly expensive relatively speaking.

Ksport

Ksport and all those other no name coilover adjustments are a big joke. Ever seen one on a shock dyno and see any dampening differences between setting 35 and 36? Lol. Amount of adjustments is a big marketing gimmicks to get people to buy it. Think about it, if 36 adjustments was really warranted and noticeable, don't you think Bilstein and Koni would also have that many adjustments?

I'm waiting for the Mach7 shaver with 7 razors so I can get a close shave.

As for ksports, if you have any problems with them, you can kiss customer support good bye. This has been very well documented by numerous people and the reason why quite a few vendors quit selling them.

Stance primary goal is for lowering and performance lower in their priority bucket.

I've tried numerous coilovers and spring shock combos and have always gone back to Bilstein and Konis fwiw.

I'm also in the market for coilovers and I rode in two different 996, they both were turbo's but I figure it's not too far from my c2. One had the pss9 and the other the kw3's, They both were very close in ride height. The pss9 was firm but not jarring a very nice ride all together, the kw's felt like a pogo stick. Im sure the kw's might be great for the track but for the street, the bilstein are hands down better. I'm now looking for some pss10. )
