New 996 owner and forum member
Hello everyone.
I'm new to the forum and a new Porsche owner. I've admired many of the various models and thought they were beyond my reach. I've even been to the museum in Stuttgart and just drooled. One evening last month, my wife showed up at my office with a 1999 996 Cab and said she would take it back if I didn't like it. The vehicle was immaculate and drives like a dream.
I've had the vehicle a couple of weeks now and I have been scanning the forums and Youtube mainly on service. I see there was a serious issue for this year model (IMS Bearing). My 996 has 122,000 miles and it sounds like failures happened early on. Where do I begin my research?
Thanks for any assistance or direction.

Welcome on abroad. It appears that your P-car is way beyond IMS failure. Maintain your fluids on a regular basis and you should be fine. If you care to research IMS failure just enter IMS at the search button. Good luck.
Congrats and welcome! I'm searching for my 996 currently and I was overwhelmed with IMS/RMS threads. So much that it almost swayed me into searching for another vehicle. Coming from a M5.....all high end vehicles have their nightmare stories. It just comes with the territory. Reading too much on what "could" happen may just steal the joy out of owning it. Sounds like you are way past any issues, but I'm still a newb with this vehicle so I'll let more experience members chime in here. Just enjoy the car and take care of it!
BTW....love the handle. Best cartoon ever!!

Welcome
Welcome to the forum. Don't worry about the IMS bearing, just keep the oil changed and have them look at the filter for metal flakes. IMS and RMS failure is in part due to cars NOT being driven enough and not having regular oil changes. Get to know her and enjoy!
Don't worry yourself with the ims failure. If your like me and never drive your car just make sure you start it every once in a while and get it up to temp. When you do drive it don't be afraid to get on it. The car is made to be driven hard. Enjoy the car cause these cars are a lot of fun.
Congrats on a great ride (I've a '99 C2 as well, though not a cab) and also congrats on a great wife. Well played on her part to show up with a 911!
