Question Bp = bad

Yup, it's what you think. Filled the car on Sunday evening and by Monday morning there was trouble. Hard start, chugging, the dreaded CEL. Thought it might be a dirty MAF so I took it out and cleaned it, no help. So, I think it's time to drain the gas out, hit with BG's 44K and a fresh fill. Only problem is that it doesn't seem easy to siphon out the bad gas? The hose won't run far enough to even get wet. What's up with that? Is there an easier way to drain the tank?

Sorry for your troubles but it's likely nothing to do with BP. It's more likely that the station had water in it's tanks and you hit the lottery by pumping from a contaminated tank. Your complaint should be with the station and they should reimburse you for your troubles. Drop the tank and drain it or pour in a bottle of Sea Foam and you should be fine.

We do know for sure that the BP here "IS/WAS" one of the stations that got the bad gas. They have shut down the pumps until cleanup is finished. Clearly they are not doing it to look good. How does one go about dropping the tank?

File a claim, they have set up a process. Hopefully you have a receipt or paid with a credi card and can prove or was from the bad gas that BP recalled. Then have a shop take care of the problem. It may be more involved than just draining the tank. From the description in the press of he problem at least plan on flushing out the entire system and replacing the fuel filter, bthey described the gas as being like sludge. You may have to clean or replace injectors, possibly the fuel pump.

If you have a shop do the work they document the parts and labor. If you do it yourself it will be harder to document it, particularly tyour labor. And what do you do with 12+ gallons of bad gas?

I would file a claim and have my car towed to the nearest Porsche mechanic ASAP. BP has really turned out to be the icon of what a gas station shouldn't be!! I wonder if some fuel treatment will make it burn at a high enough octane so you don't have to drain the gas?

Already limped it up to the shop and have a claim number from BP. My guy said the BG products 44K is the best cleaner he has ever used. Got to drain out the crap, fill with fresh and add injector cleaner. Might run hot enough to blow out the lines. might also have already fouled some of the injectors. Have to wait and see what he finds. He was busy prepping for Road America races so won't know till next week.
