Those of you who have done the 997 front facelift....

Question for those of you who have gone through with this: Did you use any type of side skirt, or did you just leave the rocker panels uncovered?

You will either have to get 997 gt3 style skirts so that the bottoms line up or merge upper 997 fenders to lower 996 fenders if you wanna use 996 gt3 side skirts.

What 997 fenders are you using(oem or fiberglass)? And if fiberglass, have you done a dry fitment yet?

After reviewing a lot of pictures, I've decided to remove the OEM 996 GT3 side skirts.

The 997 MK1 GT3 doesn't really have a bolt on sideskirt, more of just a rocker panel type line from front fender to rear wheel arch.

The shop that made my fenders basically took am OEM 997 fender and blended it together with an OEM 996 fender to create a kind of hybrid. They then made a mold from that, so essentially my fenders have to slight 997 arch, but bolt into the OEM 996 fender mounting areas. The only thing required is a little extension piece where the front fender bottom meets the rocker area, which I already have.

It will be dry-fit this weekend, but I'm not too worried about whether it lines up 100% at first or not, because the shop installing it has done quite a few heavy duty Porsche conversions before, many of which are a lot more complicated than mine =)

Pics when dry fitted. Also why did the shop make a mold and not just use the metal fenders? Are they thinking of selling these?

The fiberglass ones that Extreme Dimensions sell supposedly is a hybrid too allowing you to reuse your 996 hood to save some costs. At least this is what I was told by their rep.

Mine uses a 997 hood. It is not an ED kit. Basically it uses every 997 front part.

I'm a bit confused as I thought you said you had the hybrid fenders with the 996 lower half. The picture you posted has the full 997 fender lines, even at the bottom.

What I meant to say was that basically my fenders bolt on, with the only thing needing adaption/modification being the bottoms of the fenders where they meet the rocker panel. As far as I know, using metal OEM 997 fenders requires one to cut/hack the fender mounting rail at the top, whereas my fenders bolt on to the rails directly with no modification at the top. My fenders are however slightly flared, which causes a need for an extension piece at the bottom where it lines up with the rocker.

As you can see in the picture, there are pieces that go over the OEM 996 rockers and allow them to blend with the line of the 997 fender.

Oh I misunderstood you then.

Here is what I thought you did and what I was talking about. Doing it this way would've let you use the 996 sideskirts or any derivative.

Part of what I like about the 997 is the slight flare of the front fender =)

Fair enough and I do too but for some it might be more trouble than it's worth to try to modify skirts to match up with.

Definitely do get skirts though. It would look incomplete without it.

Having trouble finding narrow body side skirts. We are either going to make our own, or modify the OEM 996 GT3 side skirts.
