NR Auto polyurethane Turbo LOOK rear bumper
NR Auto polyurethane Turbo LOOK rear bumper
I FINALLY received my polyurethane rear Turbo LOOK bumper and the installer is concerned with the amount of work that it will need in order for it to be acceptable to him. Note that this is a body shop that is perfered by the local porsche, audi dealer and they do mostly factory body work. (They are highly respected in south florida)
Has anyone installed the new polyurethane bumper from NR Auto?
Should I have concerns or is the body guy not use to installing after market components?
I am considering just sending it back and installing my factory '02 C4 rear bumper.
Has anyone installed any of NR Auto's products??? The owner seems to know his product.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A ton of these aftermarket bumpers require a lot of handwork, cutting and manipulation. They are not 'plug and play' as we would hope. But a qualified body man should be able to make it work. It's not rocket science. On the fronts we've done, we've had to re-route ductwork and remove/relocate support braces. It can be done.
Eric,
Thanks for helping my wife with the alum. trim rings. They were a great birthday gift!!! Can't wait to get my car back so I can install them. My wife had nothing but great things to say about the experience. I will post soon, I hope.
Anyway; I was wondering if the polyurethane grilles within the rear bumper will have enough support, so they will not bounce up and down while driving at high speeds. The polyurethane is like rubber and I am concerned with a rubber band effect at high speeds.

Rob:
Dump the NR bumper. Send it back. I warned you about it after you got it. I went with anziano's. required a lot of prep to prepare for paint (but then again, even techart does and it's 3x more expensive), but the fit is good and quality is much better than nr's stuff. i have yet to hear anything good about nr's body work. not to mention the grills on the nr look weird. they're too thin or something. the anziano's piece is fiberglass and does not have the "warts" on the rear. not as squishy as urethane, but the way I see is that if I get rear ended, even at low speed, it's gonna scuff the paint and it's going back to the body shop anyway. not to mention the fiberglass is much lighter. one other thing , nr's stuff has some complaints about their urethane products "drooping" in the heat. suck up the shipping costs and send it back before you get any deeper.
if you go with a stock turbo rear, it will never really fit perfect and you'll have to get exhaust pipe extensions as well as new tips. gets to be a little pricey for a bumper conversion.

Deputydog,
I do rember that you warned me regarding the bumper. But it was already in transit and their pictures looked good.
You are correct abouth the grilles, they are thiner, etc.
I spoke to the guys at the body shop this morning and they will not install the bumper and will not take responsibilty for the final outcome.
Therefore I have requested that the bumper be set back to NR Auto.
Do you have the Anziano bumper on your car? Does the grilles look extremely similiar to the turbo.
How much work was there for the body shop to install? Remember the group that I'm working with are EXTEREMLY fussy. They have my car for a month now, and it is ALL apart in their shop. Very nice guys and very professional.

i believe the website is anzianos.com or something like that. if you google it, it will come up for sure. if i'm not mistaken, it was around $1200. i would have to dig up my receipt, but it was in that neighborhood. plus shipping of course
fit is fine. just be prepared to spend a little money on prep. these parts are not ready to paint out of the box. then again, almost none of them are. misha's stuff is the closest i've seen to being ready to paint. i've seen a techart bumper and wing and was amazed and how poorly they look out of the box.
oh, one other thing... powdercoat the grills. probably cost you $20 to do all all four. mine were painted. it's holding up pretty well. wish i had had the foresight to get them pc'd while they were doing the paintwork though. i'm sure the pc will be much more durable.
do you have a third brake light blind yet to fill the factory hole or are you still running the factory light? anziano's sells them if you need one. i can't rememeber if you did or didn't. might as well as long as you're having some paint work done.

Just a comment on materials & construction. Poly-U is good if it's thick enough, built right, etc.........when painted & cleared w/ Poly-U paint it makes for a durable front bumper.
If you go glass, plan on doing clear bra right away (especially with a dark color car)........road rash shows up big time when paint over hard fiberglass is chipped through to glass (definately happens)..........just my 2 cents.

We are discussing the rear bumper. So I'm not sure if the poly vs. fiberglass really matters. I am more concerned with the thicknes of the grilles, etc. It is not a very good knock-off. Thanks for your comments.
What about heat? That is also a major concern
Deputy Dog
I PM'd you with my mobile phone number, please give me a call to discuss. I DON'T want to go through the same thing, just with another manufacture.
Why would I powder coat the rear bumper???
I do have the third light blanked out Eric (Plug Guy) did a fantastic job with porsche in raised letters.
Have you compared the NR to Anziano???
How are the Anziano grilles in comparision to the NR Auto

NR Auto products and service was a big
disappointment. Had the GT2 front bumper. Porsche shop could not get it to fit. Neil accused them of altering the bumper and gave me a hard time when I tried to return it. I was at the shop when they opened the package and tried to install. I would never recommend anything from them.
Well with all the drama, I went back to the body shop, opened the box again, spoke to NR Auto and we are going to give it a College try.
So far; Neil does talk a good game. Only the final product will tell the truth. Neil has been a true gentlemen regarding my concerns. I will keep everyone posted.

MASHAW has one as well, my friend Justin had it installed on
his cab, I think the only issues were adding the bumperettes, there was some modification to them to get them to look right.
But the bumper itself was a good fit, I believe its fiberglass too.
