I've got DIY engine mounts and will probably tackle the tranny mount later. IMO, the tranny mount should be less stiff than engine mount to achieve a good performance to NVH ratio and thus use a lower durometer rated polyurethane. You can get these from places like Grainger or McMaster Carr.

Just saw a thread about this on the "other" forum. It's a transmission mount insert for the 996 C2 and some other models, except you don't have to press out the OEM bushing. Looks good, I'll probably give it a shot.

You don't have to press the mount out. The mount housing is alum and can be tapped out without removing tranny.
There's 2 companies that sell new mounts with 2 different hardness. Very easy to install

Not sure about being able to "tap" it out. I worked in a race shop where we removed the OEM mounts on numerous occasions. It required the transmission out of the car and about 2000 pounds of pressure on a press.

And I only know of the Wevo mount as an aftermarket alternative. Well, now the Function-First mount insert, too. Maybe you're thinking of the GT3 style trans mount?

For mkI cars transmission has to come out. For mk2 it does not.

It looks like with the above, you'll need to press your old mounts out unlike the Function-First ones.

I installed the FrictionFirst bushing today, it is a pain to do without the use of a lift, for me at least. On my initial drive I noticed more vibes on acceleration in conjunction with the growl of my Fisters. Not unpleasant but there non the less. It should be noted I also have the RSS engine mounts. Shifting seemed more positive, but I will have to do more testing. I will do a more through text drive tomorrow.

Thumbs up

Standing by - thanks in advance for keeping us informed on your findings. My only reason for doing it would be improved shifting. My car shifts like a dream sometimes and then other times, it seems like I am working the gear box instead of it just dropping into gear. I am hoping that inconsistency can be cured with this fix.

Thanks,

Ray
