Major Issue/Catastrophic Failures + Aftermarket Warranty
Major Issue/Catastrophic Failures + Aftermarket Warranty
With all this talk about IMS issues and Catastrophic Failures (One Member Just having one yesterday) I thought i'd ask the members who have had them and got them repaired from an aftermarket warranty:
What After Market Company you had?
What type of Plan did you have (Basic, Premiere, Platinum, etc.)
Did you have to pay more than your deductible?
I figure it might help other members choose a good company and plan.....I will compile and post all the results.....

That's just not really true. I've had extended service plans on my three Porsches - including my current '99. I have Direct Buy's Platinum Elite plan with no deductible. Some companies limit the age of coverage but many do not. Like with any insurance you should build a relationship with your agent. Extended service plans are something that everyone should (I believe) have. Otherwise, when something happens, don't complain. I haven't, like most Porsche owners, had an IMS failure so I can't answer that for you. I did make sure when shopping, and buying, that the company's I considered specifically covered IMS and all bearings.

I just wanted to clarify what I was talking about, I dont want to spread misinformation.
The warranty that I was talking about is a third party warranty, I wasn't talking about CPO vehicles or anything like that. I work for a Jeep Dodge Chrysler Ram SRT franchise where we also sell lexus (toyota) aftermarket warranties.
I have already had over 3k worth of warranty claims on the Porsche so it has already more than doubled its value in my case. I get my car serviced at the porsche dealership or shop of my choice and they pick up the tab including the rental car. I agree the buyer should beware of who they purchase a warranty from but generalizing between a third party warranty and a CPO vehicle warranty is just not accurate. It is absolutely correct that you should make sure that whomever you get your warranty from is a company that has financial backing and a reputation to be put on the line.
That being said, I can really only speak for lexus aftermarket warranties. They will back just about any car and their customer service/claim service is amazing. The only thing that isn't covered are normal wear items (clutch and tires etc) and rubber items (sunroof drain hoses for example). My porsche dealer even commented at how easy it was to get the claim processed from them as compared to alot of other aftermarket companies.
If it makes a difference, I also purchased my vehicle private party from a gentleman in AZ and had it transported to MD.

I spent $3K on a 3 year extended warranty from Warranty Solutions through Wells Fargo in August on my '03 Targa with 80K miles, and I made a third of that back in the first month when my water pump died. My service guy said that the warranty company was easy to deal with.
I normally wouldn't buy such a warranty, but IMS concerns forced me to make an exception.
p.s. there are other companies with similar names, like Genuine Warranty Solutions, that are reportedly terrible to deal with.
