Replacing Fuel pump
Replacing Fuel pump
Has any one replaced a fuel pump? I seen from the 996 fuel pump parts that the pump is an in tank pump. Is this something I have to take it to the shop?
I'm actually entrusted in the things I don't know like do I need to replace the fuel filter as well? Is some specific part that I also need to get as well as the fuel pump? Whats the relay for? Does that need to be replaced? Or maybe just the relay needs to be replaced.

Before you replace the fuel pump you need to be sure the fuel pump relay is ok along with any related fuses.
You can buy a fuel pump relay bypass from your Porsche dealers parts department. My tech loaned me his when my car's fuel pump quit.
And you need to be sure when you turn the key on the pump gets 12V power.
From your posts I do not believe you are a good candidate to do your own fuel pump. You expose a large container filled with very flammable liquid (vapor) that one spark can set alight.
Ignoring the fire hazard there are various ways to screw up the job. Break the plastic parts that hold the pump in place and you could have to replace the tank. Do not get the new pump secure in the plastic that holds it in place and it will slide around the bottom of the tank until a hose or electrical connection breaks. The spark won't cause a fire, the tank fumes are overly rich.
