Changing spark plug tubes.

I need to change the spark plug tubes on the driver side. In the parts forum it says I must use this special grease on the tubes. Do I have to rub this grease on the inside or outside? Or is it just for the rings at the ends?

The grease just goes on the o-rings at the ends of the tube. Shown below is the grease that is recommended by Porsche and I would use. Click Here for more information.

Awesome. Also is it common for the tubes to go bad before the the spark plugs or wires?

Normally the spark plugs need to be changed at least once or twice before the tubes start leaking. I'd recommend doing the plugs at the same time if you haven't done them recently.

I bought the car 6 months ago. The dealer said he did a tune up. I don't remember if he changed the plugs or not. I guess i will find out when i pull the plugs out. I'm not getting a miss fire, the car runs great. So it could be that the dealer did change the plugs.
Now i have a question about the plugs. I notice they a re sold in too pieces. If i need to replace them, do i have to replace both or just the tube that connects straight to the spark plug. And the one that connects the electrical part i can reuse.

I would change all the tubes and the plugs while you're already in there. It will save you from having to to the job over again. It's an easy job. Make sure you get a transom plug to pull the tubes out, there's a great DIY on here or renntech, can't remember which one.

The grease is really just to lubricate the o rings during installation. $30+ is a lot, I just used engine assembly lube from NAPA for about $5. Just my opinion.

Dharn55 i don't know about that what if that grease can not handle the engine heat? It could dry off the rubber o rings and crack then i have to do this again in 1000 miles. For $45 i do not want to chance it. But im going to look into that, you are right what makes it so special? It is just grease.

As others have said, change the plugs while your there and be done with it. You also might want to check the coils as well.

I bought my 2000 c2 about 2 months ago, as soon as i bought i did the spark plugs and Orings, the grease is just to lubricate the rings a bit so they wont deform when putting them in, i used a bit of high temp grease, all good!

Also replace the AOS.
