After market radios and installation
Got it. Thanks.
I just had this done, I got the Climate control bezel ($4) and Boxster cubbyhole ($34) from Sonnen, added a Pioneer 2400BT ($275 or so) and paid an installer to do the rest ($125 or so). I was blown away by the difference.

I went single DIN because I did the GT3consoledelete. As Dennis points out, BT hands free is hopeless. I have it in the factory location on the left side of the cluster.
I installed a much simpler JVC media receiver and fished the 2 USB ports to the glovebox (2003/MKII/996.2).
Posts here, RL, and Planet9 were very helpful. What sticks out in my mind was picking up switched power from the BT pre-wire and dimming function from the cigarette lighter light bulb
