What brand rotors to use wth Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads
What brand rotors to use wth Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads
i have read many of the threads on pads and rotors but still would like a little advice. since i work for Carlisle Brake and Friction i can get Hawk pads for free (1 set per year). after talking to the sales engineers they recommend that i use the Hawk Performance Ceramic brake pads if i want to generate the least amount of visable brake dust.
my fronts do not need replacing at this time but the rear rotors are worn and will need replaced sometime this summer. should i replace all the pads and rotors or just the rears that are worn?
i am considering using zimmermann rotors but am open to recommendations. its a weekend driver only and about 5000 miles per year, no racing or tracking. '00 C2 convertible with 68K on the odometer.
let me hear what you think, creamic pads (yes/no) and what rotors?

Get the existing rotors turned if they are not cross drilled, by any brake shop, or even an auto parts store that does service. This will true the rotors and allow the new pads to properly seat to them.
You can use OEM rotors but if they are used have them turned, unless they are cross drilled, as I mention above, if they've already been turned or are too worn out or are cross drilled get new OEM rotors.
Do not turn cross drilled rotors.

If it were my money, for a weekend driver with no racing, I would go for the Coated Balo rotors. They are considerably less expensive than OEM, and are very comparable quality. Plus they have the coating to prevent rust from forming on the hats. I agree that the ceramic pads are going to be a good idea to reduce brake dust. Click Here for more information.
Go w/ the Balo and let us know how they work. I just purchased Zimmermans for the rear, only because the Zimmermans on the front have lasted 3 years, no warping, etc. I'll be installing Textar pads, though, as I didn't like the stopping power of the Hawk Ceramics for daily driving. (DE hard braking, they're great!)

The ceramic pads will greatly reduce the dust, and the Hawks have given us excellent feedback. We carry Centric Premium rotors that are also cross-drilled. Do change them (the rears) at the same time to allow the pads to properly bed into the rotor. It is not necessary to change all four corners at the same time. Please give me a call when you are ready. I'd be glad to help.

Fwiw, I bought the hawk ceramics over the HPS as "ceramic" term is generally associated with low brake dust. This is NOT true in the case of Hawk. They have a sales brochure(which I can't find now) that actually indicate that the ceramics dust more. And I can def tell visually as well. I found this VERY odd about their line.
