Looking at a 2002 C42, have some doubts
When I went to look at the car again this afternoon, I noticed that the red calipers need re finishing as the "glossy clearcoat" is chipping off in pieces in some calipers. The left rear has no clearcoat left and is a dull reddish color. Need to powdercoat them or high temp caliper paint or just a clear? In any case, kind of a bummer..
The car does not have a BOSE system, it is a BECKER http://www.beckerautosound.com/ all CDR-220 radios are Becker. Had one on my 2000 911 CAB.
Pic of my headlights.
Car seems fine, id run with it. IMS RMS isn't that big a deal, even if it happens a few thousand fixes the issue. You damn well know you have spent money on way stupider **** then that. Buy it, don't worry about stuff, fix it when it brakes and enjoy. It's only money which you can replace. Time with something you love you can't, just that simple.

My kids (10 year old identical twins car FREAKS/LOVERS) can't sleep just thinking that sooner than later a 911 will be back in our garage. I am out on business travel and nearly midnight all I want to do is call the dealer to make sure the PPI is being done as I want to buy this sucker NOW. Price into consideration, I think a 996 C4S cannot be beat in the price/fun/bang for the buck category. No disrespect meant to anyone....
Would I prefer a 997? No doubt. Would I pay 50% premium for a 3 year newer Carrera? Heck no! I wanted a 996TT, but those here are priced at $65K and no way that car is 2+X what this car is. I am not gonna track it. Roads here suck for now while tons of constructions are happening, but I will be the coolest dad dropping kids off at school every morning.

I've got it on mine, but it may have been part of the Advanced Technic Package.
This car definitely does not have the Bose in it. Instead, the K&N makes a lot of noise

I have Bose in mine and its more of a negative than a positive, also, I think you can delete any option at a factory order level. Badge delete is a common one in many countries.
I like your value logic and love my C4S, sure you will too. I took a 7 and 11 yr old to school in mine yesterday and they love it too.

My options list based on a VIN search shows M680 MY 02 - Sound System Bose Analog. It also shows M983 Seat covers, front, leather and M981 Leather equipment without seat covers. These codes are found on my options sticker too. I'm surprised you don't have these options...
I agree with yo_clarkie - it's not that great. I've completely replaced mine with aftermarket parts.

The pics of the outside look great, however, if it were left up to me, i'd be walking away. Anyone that let their engine get that dirty obviously did not take care of the car, and I'm wondering what else is wrong or will go wrong in the future.
I noticed youre in Panama, so im not familiar w the market down there and what other comps you might find.

I cleaned the Boxster engine once. A few weeks later the spoiler acted up.
They'll stay dusty until some new owner cleans them.
Fellas, just an update... The PPI (what the dealer uses to do the CPO and extended warranties) came back with a $2K bill for a new battery, some suspension components, regular maintenance, and hood shocks. Nothing major really.
BUT, and its a BIG BUT (like the C4S has
), the seller, who had previously agreed to my initial offer, pending that the PPI did not reveal any major damage, decided to change his mind

He wants $4K more since the price of the Cayman S he wants to buy is a bit too much

Spoke to the dealer who would be brokering the deal (no comission on this car, but yes on the Cayman) and he was mad as the seller of the C4S agreed for me to pay for the PPI ASSUMING he agreed to my offer. Dealer is on my side as he wants to sell a new car and knows I am a solid buyer for the C4S and the "gentleman" selling the C4S needs to sell it before getting the Cayman. I refuse to pay his "new" asking price, specially when we agreed to a prior lower price and the results of the PPI (again, nothing major, but $2K is $2K).

The dealer will talk to the seller and see if a deal can be struck. I am firm on my offer and everyone whom I have told about the situation cannot believe that the seller is doing this. Perhaps I will have radically different news tomorrow, but as of Friday and up until now, that is the status quo.

I see this as good news, you are now negotiating!!!
If I was in your place, I would:
1. Put an offer in place in writing, I would drop my offer by $1,000 over previous an put a time expiration on it of say, 5.00pm on Friday. I would explain that the reduction in price on the PPI at $2,000 and the reasonable expectation of it being in good condition/well maintained.
2. Be prepared to walk away, perhaps hand over the negotiation to a friend to remove the emotional element. There are a lot of great cars out there.
3. Remember that the dealer is not your friend and whilst they might say they are making no money, they lie like flat fish!
If the dealer really wants to make the sale, leave it to him to close the gap.

IT'S OFFICIAL!! I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR!!

Should have all the paperwork taken care of by Wednesday!

Seller apologized to me for his questionable move, local dealer picked up the tab for the PPI as well as the costs to transfer ownership.
