I got a 03 carrera that i just recently bought and i got a new maf sensor i went and plugged it in and now my idle is really rough. its stays about 1100rpm but every now and again it will almost stall out. But when i unplug the sensor my idle is smooth. any suggestion will be appreciated i just out of ideas

It sounds like the MAF is bad out of box, or it's not installed correctly.

hmmm ok... ill double check the install but i think the screw holes only match up in one way and could it still be bad even if you can see the changes between having it plugged in or not the car runs strong with it on but idles like crap

How was it running before you changed the MAF Sensor? Also, check to ensure your air filter in clean.

Sound like the car is running rich, which the MAF should correct.

I would recommend pressure testing the system to check for a vacuum leak. A large leak will give you a rough idle even if the MAF is good, and by unplugging it the computer does not have a proper air reading so it runs off of the ECU's default settings, thus causing it to smooth out. Hope this helps!

No, the MAF cannot be installed backward, if you did the mounting holes will not line up.
