Post Buying 2001 996 C2

Please Help!

I have finally saved up enough money to buy my dream car.
Since I was a kid i love the Porsche 911.

It must be Triptronic....so the wife can drive it.

This is to be our fun car (weekend only when good weather)

Looking at 2001 C2 with GT3 kit on it
has about 175K km
Excellent Condition ... inside and out.

List of Repairs:

new brakes carbon cooled
water pump and hoses
new wheel bearings
new plugs
new coil pack
coolant and transmission fluids flushed

Agreed Price of $17,500
What should I be concerned about.

Car drives smooh with no loss of power...

please advice...

A lot of miles, just have a Porsche mechanic check out the car before your purchase, you could have no issues, to a ton of issues, with 175,000km= 108,000miles thats a lot of miles, to have your dream car be in the shop a lot, if there is something wrong with it. Do you have pictures???

IMO, I would try to get him down a bit more due to the mileage. Check out the Auto trader to get a feel for the price range, I would think $12-15k would be reasonable.
One thing you will have to do is keep up on regular maintenance, get the oil changed every 3-5k miles and use a high zinc content oil.

I think if it checks out by your mechanic all is good. The price seems very fair and even somewhat low for a 2001. I would be concerned why the agreed price is so low?

Considering the mileage, I think the price is very fair. Nothing wrong with high mileage cars as long as they pass a vigorous PPI. I bought a 2000 C4 with 107K miles four years ago for $15K. Mechanic did a very thorough PPI and with the exception of some minor things gave it a clean bill of health. It now has 133K miles and runs with plenty of spunk. A few things have had to be done such as CV boots, cats went out, seat belt, and ignition. These things break under normal circumstances. Regular oil changes are the most important single item

Don't be afraid about the km's. When these cars are maintained regularly and they check-out during a PPI, you'll more than likely have a Porsche you & the wife can enjoy for some time!

Let us know what you decide to do.

Is it 17,500 CDN or USD. The conversion of 17500 CDN to USD is 16922 USD. Looks like a fair price to me. You just need to be aware of the "porsche tax"...IE any repairs are going to be expensive. If you're used to 30 USD oil changes, that's going to be a thing of the pass as oil changes are upwards past 100 USD.

Driving it on wk ends will not demand frequent oil changes. If you can lay on your back and turn a bolt, oil changes are no problem. Definitely use oil with zinc. ZDDP, like Mobile 1 high mileage. The price looks very good to me if everything checks out.

Price sounds Good, but as everyone mentions PPI is important and see if the IMS was changed as at that mileage it needs to be updated and clutch... These are pretty big ticket items with labor.

Come down to Southern California where you can do better than that deal on a cabriolet WITH a hardtop. I'm in Orange County where it seems that every other car is a Porsche or a Mercedes. In other words, there is a glut in the after market. You could have a nice trip bringing it home! I purchased my 99 Cab with 46k miles with the hard top for $20k. (triple black-LOVE IT!)
