Looks fantastic. I love the color combo. People are going to say watch out for the (IMS) intermediate shaft bearing, but I think that model was in a class-action lawsuit, and Porsche lost. Ask if that has been addressed. I personally don't think you will have anything to worry about. I have a 99 Carrera with close to 90K now, and it has only had normal issues. Alt., water pump, and spark plug tubes leaking. Not anything I couldn't fix on my own. The interior has held up very well, even living in the desert. The exterior has only minimal swirl marks. Paint looks fantastic after all these years. I would say get it! I love my Porsches. 2004 996TT and 99 Carrera C2. Far less trouble than my 300ZXTT had over the years, and less trouble than my BMW 330Ci too. This is a great forum if you have any issues. I have owned the air cooled 911 too, but that was a major pain. Not even useable as a daily driver in the desert. The 996's have a 1:9 power to weight ratio, and the air cooled is 1:11. Trust me, you'll love it. I'm keeping both mine forever. Best cars I have ever owned. Just avoid the dealership for repairs. They will rob you blind.
Did you buy from a private party or dealership?
This is my first time dipping my toe into 911 land and I'm still green

Hello! I have a 2002 which is the first year of the MK2 generation. Not sure if you deliberately picked an 04, but as a general rule the longer the model run the less bugs they have. I'd say you picked a great year. They mastered the 996 just before changing over to the 997s
Mine is not too different than that beauty that you linked! That one has the lightweight Carrera wheels which I think are gorgeous and are considered pretty desireable. I don't normally like red but man does that thing look beautiful with the black interior and silver rear lettering. I bought mine 3 years ago, so in essence it would be like buying a 2004-2005 today, with 16k miles for $30k. I'd expect you are paying a price similar to that. The only issues I had was a battery, radiator/cooling cap ($30) that needed replacing, the ignition switch ($12 DIY) and hood struts. You may want to change out your fluids too if you don't know how old they are. I did the brake, power steering, trans, coolant and oil.
Looks like Autocheck shows no accidents on it

Be aware of the mod bug. It can strike anytime. I caught it early and have done all sorts of things. Exterior I changed up to look like a 40th Anniversary which is also an 04 model. Turbo front bumper, front parking camera, GT3 sideskirts, window tint, audio system (beware the stock one is poor).

Hey, TC! Been missing you over on PPW. As coincidence would have it, I just bought a '00 996 cab. Was hoping to find a C4 as I live in a pretty wet state, but am still planning on having lots of fun with my C2. That would make you, me, and Semperfido with his Cayman as the P-car club if you came back!

Didn't know Fido got a Cayman. He lives on the other side of town. I'll have to meet him for lunch.
I've been doing 12 hr. SEA layovers this month. Nice to be back in WA.

I bought mine from Highline in DFW. I went down and drove it and it was really clean. I had my Indy garage do an inspection yesterday and they said it was in great shape. Whew.
Need pics of your C2!

I'm definitely a fan of 04 C2's! I've had mine just under a year and am quite happy with it. Don't sweat the IMS bearing. Check the oil filter for metal particles on the PPI. If clean, put on a $250 guardian jr. magnetic chip detector and replace the IMS bearing when it's due for a clutch (or if you get a MCD warning). This issue is well understood with effective preventative measures now available. The Mark II's (2002-2004) have the bigger engine and notably nicer interior finish. Nicer wheels, lots of running upgrades. Many of the mechanical 997 upgrades and parts were integrated into 2004 996's as well.
The mod bug can be strong, as mentioned. Mine was pretty much 100% stock and perfect when I got it, but I've done quite a few tweaks since purchase.

Here's a quick checklist of things I would look at before even committing to a PPI... From a recent post on the 'other' Porsche forum.
These can be checked by a informed enthusiast checking out the car. No lift, no disassembly, just a bit of knowledge, a flashlight, and 30 minutes or so.

- How clean is the interior, trim scratches, worn leather inside?
- Paintwork dings & scratches, soft bumper spider webs, curb rash on the wheels? Any obvious signs of respray or panel replacement?
- How clean is the underside and engine compartment (without looking like the seller just did a detail on it?)
- How much life is left on the tires? Any signs of abnormal wear?
- Signs of coolant seepage at the reservoir or water pump? Obvious oil leaks? Oil and coolant look clean?
- Engine sounds good, pulls good, no excessive smoke on startup or noise? Car tracks well, has good turn-in, smooth braking?
- Clutch engages smoothly at the right point, no slipping if you are low speed/high gear/full throttle?
- No excessive vacuum on oil cap while idling? No idiot lights?
- Obvious stuff not working (like windows lowering with door handle, any peculiarities with options, etc.)?
- Visible portion of brake pads have some meat left? No scoring on rotors?
- Clean carfax, any dealer and indy service history documents?

Thanks for the feedback!
I'll be revisiting this in the morning and will be able to look closer at these items for sure... The red exterior is a little flashy for my taste but I do indeed like your color combo...
Cheers,
Barry
