Carrera C2 seats
Carrera C2 seats
I have owned a 2000 911 with the sport seats for about 2 years now and no matter how i adjust them i can't get comfortable. I find the seat too narrow in the back area and the lumbar is not so great. I have considered taking them to an upholstery shop to have foam shaved or pulling them out and getting a set of aftermarket seats.
Wondering if anyone else finds problems with these seats and what you ended up doing?

are the sport seats for that year an upgrade? I have the plain seats in my 996 and they are ok. I went with the 18way adaptive sports seats in my pan because i find the other seats to narrow at the top.
I have those same seats but originally had the non-sport supple leather powered seats with built in lumbar control.
Anywho, I also was very uncomfortable and got one of these: http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/inseluinairc.html
Installation is like 2 min. Just lift up the back padding and slide it in between.
You can also just roll up a hand towel to your desired thickness and slip it back there as well. I've done both and both are effective. With the hand towel, you don't have to worry about your bladder losing any air but it is personalized to your body only. If you have a GF or wife that drives your car, the inflatable bladder might be the better option.
Now if I can eventually fabricate brackets to lower my seats, that would complete it...

Mine are great. You've certainly listed your options. Replace or reshape. I imagine it has as much to do with body size and shape as the seats are obviously designed for a specific size, not a one-size-fits-all.

Just pull the seat bottom out take the cover off and add some flat firm foam to the pan that will get you up out of the narrowest part of the pan a little.
Unscrew the two Phillips screws on the bottom of the switch escutcheon.
Pull the lowering lever off the side.
Pull the escutcheon out at the bottom slide it down slightly to get room to disconnect the switch connectors.
Locate the two nylon pins that hold the clamps tight under the front of the seat.
Pull the pins, unclamp the clamps and raise the front of the pad to get at the wire connector.
Slide the side of the connector to the side to release the connector.
Locate the seat belt connector, different color two socket connector in the main connector.
Slide the little door open (it is loose don't lose it) pull the seat belt connector out of the main connector.
Unclip the seat belt harness from the metal guide clips on the seat pan.
Unclip the wire on the other side of the pan.
Take the seat bottom out.
The cover with the foam is very easy to take off.
