Well Kirby, what do you think? Chime in, you have both, tell us!!!!!!
Like bumble996, I too had an E46 M3. At first, I thought the M3 was faster (after having driven both), but I think that it had alot to do with the violent torque delivery of the M3. Gave you the feeling that you were going really fast. This, in turn, made me feel like my 996 was slower. Over time, I realized that the 996 was just as fast, if not a nudge faster. The smooth torque/power deliver of the flat-6 "psyched" me out initially. Net net....the edge goes to the 996 by a narrow margin. The E46 M3 could definately handle, that's for sure.....

my 996 is SC'd..of course no way a stock M3 will beat that...at least not my stock M3. Feels sooo slow compared to the SC'd car.

I think Stock vs. Stock the 996/997's are faster/quicker. I know I might get flamed for this, but for daily driving I prefer the M3. It's a more low-key type of car.

agreed.... I pull and pass many M3s at the track. I've never been overtaken by one. But with that said, the M3 is one heck of a car and it is always a very close match.

Albert is correct I have owned 2 996's and now the M3 , the M3 even though it is a higher reving motor and has less torque feels faster though...it is more of a hot rod then the Porsche is...they are about equal against a 997S no match the 997s is the winner
