The journey . . .
Hello all,
Been lurking on 6speed for a solid 5+ years, the bookmark has followed more computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones than I wish to admit. I am happy to finally post to say that I have been nothing but impressed with the discussions and content caliber (pun intended with the recent thread about weapon storage) over the years. Here's a bit of my (long) story
The madness started for me with an '91 NSX about 15 years ago and while she had to go at a certain point, the truth is her razor handling and intoxicating engine never really left me. As kids and maturity attempted to grab hold, I moved to a 2001 M5 and drove it for about 10 years as it (still) is the perfect balance of fast, "nimble" and "practical". 5 years into ownership, I had Dinan turn it into an S2 (398hp to 470hp); we can argue (as many do on the M5 board) whether it was worth it or not, but the "investment" bought me 5 more years. I sold it a year ago with 140k; beautiful car.
Here's the thing about balance, sometimes that just means it does everything very well and nothing spectacularly well, that was my M5. Even Dinan couldn't cure the fact that she was 4,000 pounds.
Enter the GX. It's spectacular for what it's supposed to do, period. It's a little funny looking, but it has a third row, has great reliability and as much storage as I need for the kiddos and their friends . . . WIN The only issue is that the sofa on wheels, is miraculously boring to drive, it's supposed to be.
Keeping in mind that the NSX never left my thoughts, I have been staring at the 996 TT for YEARS, knowing it would be my next car and maybe (if I'm good) a 997 TT! I must be getting old . . . As you can see from my signature, I ended up with a C2; far cry from a TT for sure! During my search, I finally came to the realization that I didn't want a car that would look great in my garage, I want something I would drive ALL the time! I know me, a TT would be pampered and garaged; you can get a C2 for a song and I have no guilt driving the C2 EVERYWHERE
It is truely amazing how much car you can get for so little money. Thank you for listening and maybe if I wash it this weekend, I will post the mandatory pictures to prove the car actually exists!
