Buying 996 with IMS making noise
A Porsche is property. Let me explain. When my water pump goes out on my car it's about the same cost as the water heater in my house. My car is 10 years old now and needs a new convertible roof, just like my house. Although I have 15 year shingles. And lastly I have to upgrade the stove, frige, dishwasher and microwave ( the kitchen per my wife ), so I compare this to new tires, alignment, clutch, etc. lol
My understanding is that there is no warning as far as the IMS is concerned...it just happens. I know a guy that lost his engine in his 02 996 with 46k miles to it. All was running smooth and great while crusing along on Ventura Blvd in LA at 35 MPH and suddenly his dash lights lit up and a horrid grinding sound from the engine followed by oil spilling out onto the pavement...it was over.
[QUOTE=jimtripin;4024738]the guy will sell the car for 12000 worst case scenario what does a replacement engine cost? is it a waste of time should or am I saving money here?
Here is a properly rebuilt engine ready to R&R & make 335 HP.
