I noticed that on the NSX as well. The other thing I have noticed is the supply (at least around here) of 911's is low and even ones with 100k+ mileage are fetching a premium.

That puts it in a rare category vs. cars like a vette or Mustang or whatever. The same thing happened to the Acura NSX in recent years. Resale prices were going down, down, down, then recently started to spike up as they became more rare.

I just did a few quick searches locally and I noticed a few WTB (wanted to buy) ads for 996 and 997 cars. I didn't notice WTB ads when I purchased last year so this would reiterate what you guys are seeing.

996s in NJ/Philly area don't sit on the lot for 2-6 weeks. As trade-ins arrive, they are scooped up. I sent my contact info to 7 dealerships to keep an eye out for what we were looking for and I'm sure not the only one.

2001 Cab 45k miles= $29,000
2003 Cab 60k miles= $36,000
2004 20k miles= $41,000

Speaking of classics, Princeton called me about a 1963 Porsche 356B CONV for $168,500 two weeks before it hit the lot.

Even though you didn't buy for investment, you do have one of the more rare and special models, should you ever decide to "upgrade".

As for the NSX, you can thank Sport Compact and Road and Track magazines along with the F&F movies for their increases. I followed that pricing trend for over 16 years.

Doesn't the price of our 996's also depend on the demand in your area? Would a 996 C4S or TT fetch a little higher price in the market?

You will all go into shock here I just paid $50k for my 03 C4S with 35,000 miles on the clock. However here in SA we pay over the odds but she is a one owner immaculate example and I bought her through Porsche and have a 6 month warranty as well.

I think there are 2 distinct types of used 996's. Type 1 is the well maintained, IMSB upgraded, good service history version that will command $25k- $38k. And Type 2 is the sketchy needs this and that, original IMSB, no history, has its fair share of lumps and bumps inside and out and is a scary purchase even well south of $20k.

so let me throw this out to everyone, I am thinking of listing my 996 for sale and not sure about pricing. it's an '01 Black on Black 6 speed 60k miles beautiful condition never tracked or over-revved, unmodified, aero kit, about 8 years of service history, I've had it 3 years now. Previous owner vascular surgeon, very well cared for. IMS never addressed as far as I can tell. I will be listinng in classified section but don't know where to price it. I also have a TT going up soon as well. Can't keep 5 cars in garage. Feel free to PM or post opinions, thoughts, or questions.

$25k on the upper end if you wanna possibly sit on it for awhile. $20k if you wanna sell it in a few days. My $.02
IMS could be a sticking point in these times with all this mass hysteria floating around.

What are the options on it? I would suggest posting a picture of the option sticker in your ad. I don't think that the options will affect the price much, but could increase the speed of the sale if it is priced right. Most of the 996s I've seen in my area have been base models.

Aero kit certainly helps its resale value. You don't mention other options. If it's extremely well equipped and truly pristine I'd say a bit north of $25k. I mean lets face it, it's worth what someone will pay you. Advertise it right, present it well, and who knows maybe even $27k. But you've got to reach the right market of you'll find yourself settling for $22k. How about some pics.

I will put pictures and more information in the classifieds this weekend. Probably like many others I have mixed feelings. It's a great car I'd like to keep it but need the room. I will also be posting on the 996TT this weekend or next. Who knows maybe I'll do a 3 for: package in case anyone has a few garage bays to fill :-)

Blue book

I have noticed the Blue book prices have increased as well. I gave a 996 C4S Cabriolet with 40,000 miles and was looking into getting a turbo Cabriolet, originally thinking the upgrade for a same year turbo would be give or take $10,000 or so, check the blue book now, a turbo vs a c4s cabriolet is actually around $500 less. Is that possible? too bad local dealers here in CT want way way more money for turbo's than anywhere else it seems..

Interesting, well rarity is definitely a factor to consider with these types of cars.

It's going up because the first time 911 buyer's that bought or are buying the air cooled 911's thinking it would be a fun daily driver are finding out that they break often and spend more time in the shop then on the road.

This happened to a good friend who bought one for novelty sakes and tried daily driving it and it was a disaster. After one thing broke and when it was fixed and was back on the road another frustrating occurrence happened and so on. He sold it a year later and got more then he paid for it and then took that money and bought 1999 996 and loves it. It's now his daily and he hasn't looked back since.
