200MPH setup and feedback
Has anyone here hit the 200 m.p.h mark in there 3.4 996's. If anyone could share there setup of the areodynamics, engine, suspension. I would like to here the experiences when the car felt light etc. Also how the speed was measured.
Not gonna happen without a SC and some different gearing...and maybe not even then.
My '99 would get floaty at speeds above 130 and scary north of 150. I had the stock suspension & no aero.
Got the GT3 up to 180 and it was rock solid.

I got my 99 cab with RoW M030 up to a tick past 140 - it felt okay but not rock solid. (with the top up as well as down).
I hit 165 racing a Mustang Cobra SVT and it was rock solid but scarry. I could not believe the Mustang could do 140 and I would easily pull away but when I shut down here he came again. I finally pulled even with another car doing 80 and sat there a while blocking his way. He finally cooled down and we both were relieved when the Hypo was over the next hill. I still feel guilty for racing what turned out to be a kid. The road was straight, dry and empty but just a big bug could be trouble at that speed. I felt like I had a lot of room left to go faster but no more guts. Will
wyo006,
I know the feeling at least at 125 sustained in my BMW and at 1:00am in the morning in nevada somewhere there was only a couple of things to contemplate with the brights on. 1.Was hope my tires are ok 2. When will the dear cross the highway! It sounds like you have a stable setup and with the SC. I know it would been the last thing on your list to do when confronted with the Cobra but did you notice your RPM?

I've gone as fast as 172 (corrected) in my 02 C2 Cab with the hardtop installed.
The car was stable throughout, but seemed sorta light between 100 and 130. But at 130 I could really start to feel down force on the car. It really felt like gravity went into boost mode. The car was very solid, and loud, but with a purposeful sound to it all (engine, and tires). I don't remember that much wind noise, but it was probably drowned out by the other sounds.
This last weekend I drove the Porsche to Las Vegas and went through Death Valley. There are some very straight, flat & empty stretches of road around there that were too tempting. I only got up to about 145 in a few places, mainly because I seem to have a tire balance vibration between 105 and 130 (hence 145). I felt like chuck Yeager must have felt going through the sound barrier. Everything is vibrating like mad, then all of a sudden it smooths out. The other reason I did not go very fast is that every time I would do it, my wife would get a death grip on the arm rest. I'm not sure how I am going to get her fingernail marks out of the leather!
I don't think you are going to get anyone who has a regular Porsche to report anything beyond 185.

Mother, I barely could glance at the speedo to see past my white knuckles at that speed but I know I had a lot left. That Misha wing and GT2 front end really pushed me down. The interstate was curving gently when I hit 165 and spooked me a bit. So no I did not see the tach. Will
200 MPH is going to be difficult in a 3.4 car period. You would need to have alot more power and minimize drag. Gearing is a very large factor also.
There comes a point where you need a signifgant increase in power to punch a hole in the air and that multiplies the faster you go.
There is a formula for this I need to dig it up .
Not saying it couldnt be done but id say it would be a stretch for a regular carrera.

I've gone 160+ in both my 99 C2 and my 02 C4S, and the difference was night and day (both stock). In the 99, the front end got really light above 130, and I found myself wandering +/- 6ft without any steering input. In the C4S, I ran out of road at 168, and the car felt completely stable. I've also gotten it up to 155, then stood on the brakes, and the car was totally stable under ABS-level braking. My passenger was a friend of my father-in-law's, who works as a finance manager at a Ford dealership. After the run, he looked at me and said "Now I see why you paid so much for that."
Aero is huge at those speeds. To crest 200 mph, you'll need to find a balance between enough downforce to keep you planted (balanced front to rear as well), but not so much that you need more horsepower than you can generate.
Ruf is one of the few tuners who have significant test miles at those speeds. Talk to them.

Here's your magical 200MPH formula sir: Start with an 02'-UP 3.6L C2 .....X74 suspension, TPC supercharger upgrade, 100-cell cats, bored out throttle body (has shown to add 8-to-10 rwhp on SC'ed cars on TPC dyno...and at only $300 for the machining of your stock TB its cheap), and slightly lower final rear gear ratio/pinion...wala!
I would NOT add any aero enhancements if your only mission is to hit 200mph in the top end/straight line run, the full X74 suspension on its own will keep the car stable at those speeds...any aero packages will simply increase drag to the point more HP is needed. And the standard C2 body with no aero enhancements is extremely slippery thru the air. Also I would suggest the TPC unit over the Evo becuase its a positive displacement SC as oppose to a centrifugal one (power everywhere as oppose to only in the extreme high rpm respectively) and with lower rear gearing, acceleration up to speed will be made more sluggish with the centrifugal set-up less likely cope. A positive displacement blower makes full boost low in the powerband and is *independent* of engine revs (i.e. full boost by 3K rpms in the case of the TPC kit...as oppose to redline for evo, with tall gears this becomes ever more important*)
Recap= ***02-UP C2
***X74
***TPC SC
***100 cell cats
***Ported TB
***lower rear pinion
PS: I think ~420RWHP(or 480BHP) in a "C2 body" car should be enough to hit the number*** (w/ proper gearing)
