LED- or "crystal clear" tail lights for 996?

I seriously wonder whether there will ever be aftermarket LED or "crystal clear" tail lights available for the 996. I see dozens of them for the 986 boxster and various other (non-)Porsche models, such as BMWs, VWs etc. ... but none for the 996.

Really don't get it. There are soooo many 996 around and the standard tail lights look very, very old skool.

Does anyone know whether there are new aftermarket tail lights planned for the 996?

Wouldn't consider LED lights to be "bling". They're simply modern (and good looking btw.). Even the Carrera GT has LED tail lights and the 997 has "crystal clear" tail lights.

I'm definitely not into bling and my TT is bone stock.

was following a 997 home gonna say the LED looks pretty cool. i guess as long as the light stays red than silver it'd be fine.

Actually, the 997 and the 987 (new Boxster) have so called "crystal clear" rear lights, not LED. They indeed look pretty cool when lit. One big advantage of their tail lights is also the fact that they have 3 bulbs on each side, which are lit at the same brightness. Looks definitely better than the 996 tail lights at night.

I agree that the aftermarket LED lights for the 986 boxster look too rice though. I can't understand why the aftermarket manufacturers didn't come up with some simple LED style lights for the 986, since the LED technology looks cool even without weird geometric design experiments inside the tail lamp's case.

This is how the 986 crystal clear aftermarket tail lights look like: LINK

... and this is how the rice LED tail lights look like: LINK (don't like the internal design of the case... little too rice).

Here's a little less "rice-style" LED-version... but still not plain enough for me: LINK.

I prefer the one from the first link... simply clear and elegant. It's still unfair that there's such a variety of different tail lights for the 986, while there are only the OEM tail lights available for the 996. I want at least a "crystal clear" option... maybe with three bulbs and the back up lights going to the upper part of the case (like on the C4S and TT).

I looked into this whole issue when I thought about getting a 996 for my girlfriend. However, I guess that the lack of "crystal clear" tail lights won't keep her from being very happy with the 996 though.

I have searched for these type of LED/Crystal style lights for our 996s--they simply do not exist in any market. The only hope would be to see if the maker of these 986 aftermarket taillights would be willing to produce a set if we present a certain demand/orders for them. If this is the case I am IN...this simple upgrade will modernize the rear of the 996 greatly and further reduce the differance from the new 997. An all-red Carrera GT insipred LED taillight design would look nice

Marx,

You're right....the first link looked nice, but the next two were way to 'RICE'. I'll have to keep my eyes open for the 997 lights in rear. I had not paid to much attention to them; surely I will now.

I like my stockers just fine. Those in your links look don't blend in with a 911 IMO. A 911 is classy and not ultra modern or ricey.
