Lost lights
Lost lights
Had my 1999 911 C2 Cab resprayed, looks terrific. Removed bumper covers, head, tail and side lights for painting. After re-assembly, the front and rear side markers don't work and neither do the rear running lights. Front and rear turn signals, backup, and headlights/fog lights all work. PS rear fog light also does not function. Checked fuses (all OK), headlight switch new last spring (removed it yesterday and sprayed with electronics cleaner). Me and electrical stuff don't play well together . . . any suggestions would be really helpful. Larry
When I first read your reply, I went 'Ya right', then I saw your mega experience and went, well OK, if you say so. Then I goggled it and found out why, still seems just weird. GT3 Chuck, Thanks so much for your reply, it's always cool to learn something new! I've got my light problem down to a short in the driving lights on the PS, still trying to find it. Larry
What I would like to know is why didn't the Porsche part sales guy tell me I didn't need another bulb
Anyway, have a good yuck at my expense...I can take it...I get abuse every day here anyway so I'm used to it....the full story is I was checking the lights on my then new car when I thought my pass fog light was burned out...when I opened the light to check the bulb, there wasn't one in there...instead of asking a question here I thought my car was built on a Friday afternoon and went to the dealer and bought a new bulb...the parts guy could have told me then and there that I didn't need one....but no...he sold me the $25 bulb instead (this was in 2005, I wonder what they cost now). The bulb might be doing better than my 401k so I better hang on to it...well, back at the farm I put my new bulb in where the factory obviously f'ed up, hit the switch and still no light....hmmm....did they sell me a bad bulb? Nope, it works in the driver side light...hmmm...got out the dvm and sure enough no voltage....so now I'm wondering if I have a wiring problem but I'm also mindful that the factory hadn't put a bulb in that socket so I decide to let Google be my friend and I found some generous soul who had done the same dumb thing and posted it on the Internet...lesson learned...RTFM as the info is in there under fog lights...so anyway, it usually takes two Wild Turkeys to get this story out of me so pony up!

If you are certain it is not a fuse. Recheck the connection of the front head lights. A Mechanic had mine out and without him knowing it, bent over a pin in the connector. I only discovered it myself by taking both out to compare side by side. I very carefully straightened up the pin with long nose pliers and all worked ok afterwards. Just a thought.
