Wind deflectors 996 cab

Thinking about buying one of these for my Cab but wanted to know if they actually work, do they reduce the turbulence in the cockpit and is there room in the back of the car for my son when fitted? Do any of you 6'ers use one?

My son was complaining how blowy it was in the back with just the windows down and I'm looking to remove the hard top this weekend for the summer. At around £300 (around $480) Is this money well spent, money wasted or worse..... turn my Pcar into a hairdressers car?

Not one can use the back seats when the deflector is in the car. For full protection against the wind when travelling, best to have the front side windows in the up position. The rear windows do not operate when the soft top is down anyway. I think they are well worth the outlay but that is your decision. If your son rides with you he will have to use the front when the deflector is being used.

IMO, absolutely worth the money! Bought mine off eBay for $425 with free shipping. BNIB. I leave mine up with the windows down and it still cuts down the turbulence.

Hurdi, I assume the windows don't operate when the roof is down rather than stay in up position and the deflector must attach to the front seats rather than the back which prevents access to the rear?

Phil, at what kind of speed do you get when you need to use the deflector? I imagine anywhere over 30mph and the turbulence, noise or even road noise becomes to much. Knowing what the sound systems are like in the 996 even with the Bose, can you hear the radio? Also, a question to the masses is there a noticeable speed reduction having the deflector in place?

Actually, it attaches to the sidewall panels behind the front seats using sliding lock pins. The rear seat backs have to be lowered and tabs on the rear of the deflector slide into slots where the raised seat backs would have been.

Ah ok, that makes sense and now know what those holes in the side are for. Didn't know the rear seats folded on the Cab, owned the car since September, still so much to learn.

Any comments on the speed drag question? Also is OEM the best option here, Porscheshop.co.uk are offering both OEM and aftermarket with a sizeable saving?

I've never noticed much buffeting below 30/40 mph, but I leave it up all the time. At highway speed, I'll crank up the stereo a little once I pass 70 mph or so. With the windows up, its amazingly quiet. I've got the Bose system in my 2004...well, for another month or so! Researching double din systems now.

The wind deflector is a "must have" item. It makes a huge difference in my opinion.

Philty57, I too have an 04 cab with the deflector and got if off ebay. I have been very pleased with it and especially my wife. As far as the double din system, I'm looking also to upgrade my audio system. Please post up your findings/research when you find something you are going to pull the trigger on. Thanks, Bernard

I'll do that! I got a quote from a local shop for about $2K to install a Kenwood "flip up" 7" touch screen single din and a 600w amp. $500 of that is labor. I'm seriously thinking I could put in a better system myself for less than that. My daytime job is working on $50M airplanes. The repair shop that fixed my body damage last year helped a local PCA member install his and they're the Porsche gurus. I believe the guy got his DIY "kit" from DelRay Customs. Sent them an email a couple weeks back and haven't heard back, so maybe I'll call when I get a chance.
