Nice drive in so cal
There are far better drives (due to conjestion) than Angeles Crest and Ortega... just take some time to read the site.
All the best roads are documented here: you snooze you loose
Also, do everyone a favor and after you get your info, delete this thread, or at least the specific names of the roads.. last thing we want is every Fast and Furious dick/tom/harry to show up on the more prestine roads and ruin it any further... never know who is browsing this forum! There are still some awesome undisturbed canyon drives left, as I've hit many recently. And once F&F 3 comes out, the kids will be out looking for canyon roads big time, not to mention cyclists and moto-crusier-road-hogs... so all the reason to delete any pointers as to where these are.
I will be erasing the link in a few hours...

Nice to see a site for guys that run on four wheels. I've been a fan of pashnit's site (www.pashnit.com) for some time, and use it often in planning a trip: eg. Hghwy 36 in Northern California-- 141 miles of uninterupted thrill ride.

Steph, there are no "hidden roads" around that almost everyone doesn't know about. Most of them have been very popular among the motorcycle crowd for a VERY VERY long time. I can promise there isn't anything out there we could now "discover" that hasn't been known by canyon carvers, bikers, and the CHP for many many many years, including the ones you've driven recently. Or anything that wouldn't come up w/ a simple search on google.
This is my favorite if you are up for a drive: http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway58.htm
Angeles Crest is still one of my favorites as well, as long as you get off the main road and jump on some of the ones that are way deep in there. Also, go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
