Transmission sensor and leak

About 2 weeks ago, i notices a small oil spot under my 911. I wasn't sure if it was from my car or was already in the parking spot that i was in. I checked my oil and it was fine. I moved it a few feet and checked it a little while later and there was no spot. I've been keeping an eye on it and haven't noticed anything until a couple of days ago. I noticed a new spot on my garage floor. Looking under the car, i noticed something dripping from the plastic underlining. I wasn't sure what it was, so i checked the oil. it was fine. I got it on a lift today and found that it appears to be coming from a sensor on the front of the transmission (6 speed manual). When i removed the sensor, it was a little loose and doesn't have a washer on it. It is just threaded into the top of the transmission and is allowing tranny fluid to leak out. I haven't been able to find out what the sensor is, but i have a pic of it. can anyone tell me what this sensor is called and should it have a washer? it so, what kind of washer and how thick? Brass, nylon, rubber? This week, I am going to do a transmission fluid change, so can add a washer when i do it. I checked the tranny fluid and it was a little low but nothing alarming.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Phil

Thanks for the info. I've seen that procedure, but couldn't seem to find out about the sensor. I finally figured it out though. its the reverse light switch. Everything i see online shows it without a washer, so I'm just going to put it back in and make sure it is tight and see what happens.
