Buying first pcar...

Well it turns out I'm looking to spend around $50k - so thinking a 2002 or 2003 C2 with under 30k miles. I'd love to find one slightly modded, but not really having a ton of luck. Any thoughts on this one? Any suggestions in doing my search?

Ebay Item number: 4595388189 (sorry, I couldn't get the link to work)

thanks

Just a heads up, this looks like a pretty stripped 911, it was about 78-79k new...

Assume it will need the following soon...

Brakes, tires, clutch and the 30k service...
If it doesn't your doing well, but it is approaching 30k and it's a magic number for 996's that have been driven hard. So it does sound like a good deal, but as your first porsche just be aware you may have to put some maintenance into it even if it looks clean from the dealer. I would suggest keeping 10% of your budget for the 1st year maintenance/repairs(even though it's under warranty) and then for the 2nd year onward the maintenance will be all about how you drive and keep the car, not the previous owner.

Just to let you know what my 03 cost to drive last year(forgetting mods and upgrades)

Havn't had to do my clutch yet, but I'm the orig owner so I have been taking care of it...
winter tires-$1000
summer tires(only last about 12k)-$1200
alignment(I do it yearly or tires may only last 6-8k) $225
major service(15k) $500, FYI: major service(30k) $1000
oil change every 7500 miles $250 each time
Rim Repairs(because wheel rash sucks on a porsche) $300

Permagrin from driving it...
Priceless

No problem... where are you located, maybe one of us can hook you up with a car that's been "known" here

I'm living in Chicago now, but moving to Dallas in a few weeks. For the right car, I'll go anywhere, so location isn't really that important. Of course, if it's a shorter drive to Dallas, that's a plus!

I was hoping to spend in the low 50s. think its possible?

Not from what I've heard... Major as in 30k service $550 on an 03, that's a first. If you do everything including the brake/clutch fluid change that should be done every 2 years it's a $1000 bucks on an 03. More if you have an 01 and need to do the plugs at 30k, luckily we can wait till 60k.

Maybe its 'cause im doing a 99? I was quoted twice in the 500 range for the 30K including plugs? In fact it is going in to have it done for 550 in a couple of weeks.

Also I would guess your using an independent? On an 03' I'd still use the dealer as it's still under warranty and may have recalls and such. Also it makes it easier to build a relationship with the service dept so they can goto bat for you and warranty work.

no, not an ind. shop at all. Both are dealers. Both are still under extended warranty, and i use dealers exclusive when service is involved. Believe it or not, i actually like my dealer......

What dealer, let us know because they seem to have good rates, when ever we have these..."What does it cost" thing the dealers on the west coast always seem to be the most expensive with everyone saying use an independent if your car is out of warranty...
