Porsche NAV
Porsche NAV
I have a 2003 C4S with the Bose sound system and was wondering if I could just swap it out easily with the factory NAV that was an option for the car when it was new (if I could find one)? Basically I'm curious if the wiring is already there and it's just a matter of taking one out and plugging in the other one or if it would require a ton of work. Also wondering if those older NAV units are any good and can have their maps updated?
Thanks as always for the help.

It's not a simple job. You need to add the CD unit and the GPS antenna. You would probably need it to be activated by your dealer. It's a very outdated system, so you'd spend lots of money for very old technology. On the plus side, it would add a cassette tape player to your car.
Your best bet is an aftermarket system.

No cassette in the PCM 2.0 system. I don't know if the 4S has the MOST system. I believe the 996 turbo does.
Search for PCM retrofit 996 or PCM 2.0 https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...t-success.html
I had really good success with the non-MOST system where you can put in a TK30 in. Then just use phone stand for turn by turn and allows call interruption:

I wasn't sure about the cassette.
The 2003+ C4S does have the MOST system.
I had PCM 2.0 in my 2004 Cayenne. It's not useless... It actually worked pretty well. It's just very outdated compared to modern systems. I'm not sure when the last map update was released.

I thought about this issue for a long time.
check the forums, here and Renntech, as there are numerous threads about doing a change over with aftermarket unit.
Yes, the 2003 C4S has the MOST. I finally didn't do anything because of the work involved moving the a/c controls down to where the cubby is located, not really wanting to do the work myself and not wanting to spend $ on an installation, and, don't laugh, I've come to appreciate using the cubby, and the 4 cd holders, and I have a very nice Tom Tom gps.
But, to each his or her own. Check the forums via the search engines. Especially Renntech where I recall there is a really great step by step thread with good pics of the entire process.

Moving the climate control is very easy. The mounting points already exist and the wiring is long enough to accommodate the move. I agree with you on the useful cubby; I used mine all the time.
