So after asking around and trying to get a straight answer from different people (except Serg124) without any luck I just pulled the trigger on a great ebay deal for a PCM 2.0 which also came with a factory MOST amp (which I don't need but is great as a back up). The units came from an 04 4S and are in immaculate shape. I decided to just pull the CDR23 from the dash last night and plug in the PCM to see what happened, everything seemed to work perfectly except for GPS location as I have not received the antenna yet. Another thing I noticed was that the radio sounded soooo much better than with the CDR23. It seems like this upgrade is pretty straight forward and definitely worth it if you want to keep the OEM look. I am currently waiting for the lower AC trim and GPS antenna to complete the install. I will update status once all parts are in. More pics to come.
It doesn't have either. I was actually really lucky because my unit came from new york which is where i live and the disc was in the unit when i powered it up.
lol I was being general. To be fair, out of everyone I asked you were the only one that said it would be a direct swap so I was still skeptical, but it was also because of you that I decided to just buy the unit and give it a shot so thanks
Interested to see how this turns out. Anyone know if PCM1 can be swapped for PCM2?
I'm pretty sure after reading around a bit about the different PCM systems and how they work you would have to integrate the MOST fiber optic setup into your car to make the PCM 2 work. My main concern was just swapping out my CDR23 to a PCM 2, and so far it seems to be plug and play but I still have yet to finish the project as there are still a few trim pieces I am waiting on.
Since I had a little spare time the other day I took the opportunity and started prepping. Moving the HVAC controls to the lower position is pretty straight forward, it just requires pulling the wiring harness back and down which required popping off the carpeted section of the drivers side center console.
My biggest concern after taking everything apart was this front bracket that the horseshoe clips on to. i thought about hacking it up and getting the PCM to fit but I still would like to keep all the original parts to my car just in case I want to put everything back to it's original state one day. After confirming the part number needed I did a quick google search and found a few, just out of curiosity I plugged the part number into eBay and there was 1 nice used piece from an 04' 4s for about 35 bucks, perfect! Should be here by the weekend.
My part: 996.552.231.11
Part ordered: 996.552.231.12
Hopefully I won't need to change the rear cage, I see there are two black clips on both sides that seem to hold the CDR23 down once pushed in, I will try to pull those clips ad see what happens.
