Anyone know where I can buy a 2nd gear for my 99 6speed? The syncro is fine but the gear itself is cracked.



I may not be able to reply so sorry if I don't. I have e-mailed the rshankar about my troubles with the forum and never got an answer back. Never the less, I still need a 2nd gear to get my car up and running again.

How do you know the gear is cracked?

The only place you'll find parts is from a wrecked 996, but most likely they'll be selling the entire unit, not parts. Porsche doesn't sell parts for the 996 trannys.

 

Powerhaus II transmissions will rebuild or sell you whatever parts you need for a 996 tranny.

I know 2nd gear is cracked because I'm looking at it and it's cracked. I shifted from 1st to 2nd, let the clutch out, and then 1 second later the car made a thump noise when the transmission disengauged. That's when 2nd gear became the equivalent of neutral. Hehehe. The transmission is now out of the car and opened up...

Yeah Roger got me all fixed up. I got the 996 fixed and sold it. I'm looking into an Elise at this point.
